  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Has anyone here had their tubes tied and can you walk me through the procedure, please? I am having my tubes tied in three weeks and I'm a little nervous. My husband and I have decided that we are definitely DONE having kids. I was on the mini-pill while BFing but now that I have weaned I am not wanting to be on the regular birth control pill until menopause. What's the recovery time like for the tubal? My sister in law is coming to help with the kids for a few days to let me rest afterwards.

Hi,

I'm in a similar situation - my husband and I are through having children also and I know longer want to take the bc pill. I've been off and on them for 11 years now and am tired of swallowing them every night. But, lucky me, my husband has agreed to have a vasectomy! It's becoming quite a trend here in the town I live in. We know of about 10 different guys who have had this procedure done, so my husband is willing to do it also. Within the next couple of months hopefully. I have had some friends/family members who have had their tubes tied though and they didn't have any complications or problems from it. I wish you well with your upcoming surgery! Take care, Beth

laproscopic tubal ligation has a shorter recovery time than an open procedure (where they make a large incision) but open procedure is not the norm.

I have not had one, but worked in the O.R. for a while and actually saw one. I think alot depends on what type your having and how you tolerate pain, etc.

I am suprised you are having your tubes tied and he is not. A tubal ligation involves surgery to the abdominal cavity which has higher risks of infection and complication than a vasectomy would. (this being said, it's everyone's own personal choice)

Yes, I would have to agree.. having a vasectomy would seem like the better thing to do.

"A vasectomy, performed in minutes with a local anesthetic, is faster, easier, less expensive and poses much less risk for complications to men than does a tubal ligation for women, which must be performed under general anesthesia, requires a longer recovery period and is more expensive." I had it done during a c-section with my 2nd daughter. I can't tell you much about the recovery since it must have been overshadowed by the recovery of the c-section incision, but I can tell you that I really love the results. (effective and convenient)
