Interesting, so we now have a test we can apply to see if we are "old." When the semester starts, I'm going to have to see if my students start calling me "mister."

Wait...I have students!? Oh dear, I am getting old, and I'm only 23!
oh boy. i am doing my student teaching and field experience and my students have to call me Miss.... yikes. what are you teaching???

I'm TAing discussions and labs for the science and engineering level physics 2. I just know I'm going to get at least one student who's fresh out of high school and still programmed to address his teacher formally. When that person raises his hand and asks for permission to go to the bathroom, I plan to look him directly in the eye and firmly say "no." And then after about ten seconds I'll laugh it off. ^_^

So what grade are you teaching?

Man, I'm still programmed to address teachers formally!

My mum is the principal of the primary school I attended, so I still see some of the teachers who taught me as a nipper on occasion, but despite their best efforts to encourage me, I can't bring myself to call them by their christian names. If I went back to my grammar school, I'd have to address the teachers as 'Sir' or 'Miss;' it just doesn't feel right to do otherwise.

Nor, for that matter, do I feel comfortable in addressing those teaching me now I'm at medschool by anything less than 'Doctor <insert surname here>.'

Ditto, although in regards to previous posts, most of the time in High School we didn't have to ask permission to go to the restroom. We could just get up, take the pass (if there was one), go, and come back.

I had gone to see Transformers the other day, and, being a guy, not to mention a bit of a geek, I really enjoyed it. When I got home, I thought I'd check out the IMDB to find out more about the pretty lead female (mainly because I couldn't remember her name), only to discover she's 2 years younger than me

Has anyone else had an experience like that? One where you suddenly realise you're really not a kid anymore?

Same thing. When I realized there are now celebrities that are younger than me.

It has got to be seeing children grow up. that makes me feel VERY old. i remember being a kid/preteen and my parents friends saying how big i've gotten, etc. Now i'm the one saying that!

also my "baby" sister being taller than me, the greatest reminder.

I kind of know what you mean. There are 2 colleges in my hometown and everytime we would drive through the campuses or see the college students and their buses downtown, I would look up to them as the big kids. Then one day on a trip home from my own college, I drove through the campus area and realized that I was older than most of those kids there! It's so weird and even now, I still drive through there with the mindset that they're the older college kids, even though I'm significantly older than them now :)

I don't wanna get old... :(

I have the same problem. I'm in grad school, and I still keep calling professors by their title. It took the desert heat to knock me to my senses. I always used to call my advisor "Professor," until one week this summer we went on a research trip to an observatory in the middle of the Arizona desert. After spending hours out there fixing a telescope, I needed a spare part, and from fifty feet away I just called him over using his first name, because "Professor" had way too many syllables in it.

Now, this is somewhat tongue in cheek, but I thought I'd share a little experience I had the other day that sort of knocked me for six...

When did hot girls in films suddenly become younger than me? Last time I looked, they were all older, by a couple of years at least. If I'm not careful, I'll be a dirty old man before I know it.

To make matters worse, my flatmate decided to tell me I was going grey round the temples. It's just not fair! :p
Could be worse, I suppose... the new youth pastor at church is just a year older than me, and he's already thinning out on top ;)

Has anyone else had an experience like that? One where you suddenly realise you're really not a kid anymore?
Lol! I really, honestly feel the pain and have been feeling it since I was 20 and found out two of the hot guys in one of my favourite bands were younger than me :o I felt like such a dirty old woman!! I'm sort of used to it now though. I see successful people younger than me and see it as a kick to pursue my own goals a bit more fearlessly, because if they can do it, right...?

Hehe, sorry, old-timer! ;)

It's just a little weird- up until now celebrities have been at least a year or so older than me, but all of a sudden they're 2 years younger- just haven't been paying attention!

Hope you have a great birthday; take it easy!

A similar manner?

I see 30 as the ememy since I feel it will rob me of what has always been emphasized about me by EVERYONE in my life...beauty.

I have everything else that a woman at my age wants. I'm married(since I was 16) I have three boys, I own my own home, I get to be a stay at home mom.

I just feel that since looks have been so emphasized all my life, if I lose them, I will be nothing. :( Wrong thinking, I know, but its very much embedded in my mind.

I know there are alot of beautiful woman celebrities over 30 even older, but still I worry.

I think Ishida means that we will all be equally "enthusiastic" about reaching that milestone. :D I hope I'm as fortunate as you at that point.

I know that if I'm still single, the looks thing will be a HUGE issue for me as well. I should probably be working on that now, but I don't know how to begin.

I don't mean that all of sudden at 30, your looks vanish, I just worry about a downward spiral. Like I said I know a lot of very beautiful people who are older then me, I just worry. Its all vanity.

When you say you should probably be working on that now, do you mean finding a boyfriend/husband? You have plenty of time, really.
