Now, this is somewhat tongue in cheek, but I thought I'd share a little experience I had the other day that sort of knocked me for six...

I had gone to see Transformers the other day, and, being a guy, not to mention a bit of a geek, I really enjoyed it. When I got home, I thought I'd check out the IMDB to find out more about the pretty lead female (mainly because I couldn't remember her name), only to discover she's 2 years younger than me

When did hot girls in films suddenly become younger than me? Last time I looked, they were all older, by a couple of years at least. If I'm not careful, I'll be a dirty old man before I know it.

To make matters worse, my flatmate decided to tell me I was going grey round the temples. It's just not fair! :p
Could be worse, I suppose... the new youth pastor at church is just a year older than me, and he's already thinning out on top ;)

Has anyone else had an experience like that? One where you suddenly realise you're really not a kid anymore?

Nothing's wrong with that as long as she is legal and you don't use her. :p

Yeah, there are pro athletes and members of successful bands younger than me now.

Just yesterday I looked out my apartment window, and I noticed that the neighbor's kids were playing outside. I'm used to living in the dorms or in campus apartments, where we ourselves were the "kids." The fact that my neighbors are all real adults makes me wonder if I'm getting old, or something.

Haha yeah I've had that happen! Usually it's with movies as well. But also, it's with college people. I mean, I'm old enough that had I gone to college, I would be either in my senior year or have already graduated. So when I hear people say they're going to go to college, I can't think, "They're my age!" anymore. I have to think "They're 4 years younger than me!". haha. Also, when my mom married my dad, she was 24 years old. And then I think to myself, "Sheesh, I'm gonna be 24 in less than 2 years and I've never even had a real relationship before." Kinda strange to think about. Just things like that make me realize I'm not a kid anymore.

A school friend of mine just got married recently. I hadn't seen her since high school, so I had the image of her, the skinny, blonde kid (who looked young for her age) who had a funny laugh and was always messing around. Today I was looking at some of her wedding photos online because we got in touch over Facebook, and DANG! If I saw her in the street, I wouldn't recognise her. I mean, this was 'Squish' (her nickname which stuck all the way through high school!), who I married in year 7 during a particular boring form period. I wore a tissue on my head as a veil. And now I'm looking at her in a wedding dress with a guy I've never even met, and she looked so grown-up. Incredibly mature.

I was like "dang. Squish got married. I feel oooooold...."

We have our 5-year reuinion next year. That makes me feel old too...

People in stores have started to call me "ma'am" instead of "miss." Not always, or even most of the time, but it's definitely a reminder.
Betcha that's not worse than me being called miss/lass/nice lady (all of which happened when I was working at Winn-Dixie). Not that it's really related to getting older, but I mean, how bad does one's eyesight have to be?

My realization of it usually comes in the form of people younger than me either not remembering or referring to stuff I watched as a kid or was listening to just 10 years ago as old. Then I remember that it seemed just like yesterday that I was in middle school/high school, and that I've not accomplished anything qualitatively substantial in the past 3 years...rather disheartening, to say the least.

I know, I'm definitely too old to post here. anyway.

I was telling my friends that I'm getting old since I was 18. On my 18th birthday - because of all my being-old-tirade - a friend of mine promised me to get anti-age-creme for me when I'm really old, that'd be when I hit 30... now guess what.... I only have 1 more year to go...

but you know what. I still remind my friend to stick to her promise. and she will. it's great to have her as a friend, still, after all these years. ;)

I'm not sure if I look young, or bouncers just like picking on me because I'm short...

It's quite funny- when I come to kids TV, I keep finding myself going on about how things were so much better when I was young. I mean, that Dragonball Z malarkey just can't compare to classics like Thundercats or the Real Ghostbusters :D

The ironic thing there is that Dragonball Z is nearly that old as well - it's original airing was from 1989 til 1995 or 1996 (granted, that was the original Japanese run, it didn't start getting dubbed til that run was almost - if not completely - over). But that's just me being facetious.

The stuff I shake my head and groan at is the mindnumbing 'children's television' that my cousin watches (not that I think he even is interested in it most of the time, but whatever). A) It really seems more like an experiment in 'let's see how dumbed-down we can make TV, and the next generation to boot', and B) why even make television shows for the under-3 crowd? That's what parents are for - people complain that children aren't getting enough parental guidance and get raised by TV sets instead, so what do we do to curb that? Have 'em start watching TV at earlier and earlier ages. Yeah, that'll work.

EDIT: A couple weeks ago I did make this thread about childhood cartoons in the Teens section:

Lots of stuff in there.

Ooh, I got called that once while I was at a restaurant a few weeks ago and I haven't even been 18 for over a month!

Though I must admit, it made me feel kind of important when they said that. I kind of keep forgetting I'm not underage anymore. :p

lol that is pretty funny

I always end up teasing my friends that are older than me when their birthday comes... even if they aren't that much older than me. But i have thought that also with people in shows. Crazy

Interesting, so we now have a test we can apply to see if we are "old." When the semester starts, I'm going to have to see if my students start calling me "mister."

Wait...I have students!? Oh dear, I am getting old, and I'm only 23!
