Hi All

Been listening to a bit of country music recently, mostly Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson; its not a genre I've really listened too much before so I'd love some recommendations of artists I might like

Thanks in advance :)

I recommend Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr, Charley Pride, Jerry Reed and George Jones. These are the best IMHO.:clap:

Matt, a lot of folks like George Strait as do I because that's what I grew up on listening to on the rodeo road with my dad back in the day. Brooks and Dunn, anything of Reba McEntire before 2005 is great; a lot of songs from the 60's through the 90's are great to listen to.

In my personal opinion, the current format I recommend listening to is the Red Dirt/Texas Country music. It's different than the current pop-like country Nashville is playing. The good Nashville acts now are Luke Bryan, Easton Corbin, Blake Shelton. The Texas/Red Dirt acts to tune in are The Casey Donahew Band, Eli Young Band (making waves on both charts with their hit single "Crazy Girl"), Randy Rogers Band, and Stoney LaRue. Tune into 95.9 The Ranch online out of Fort Worth, TX to hear these bands.

As already mentioned- Waylon Jennings, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, and then there is Willie Nelson, Alan Jackson, Montgomery Gentry, Hank Jr., The Highwaymen, Chris Ledoux, Craig Morgan, Darryl Worley, Brad Paisley, Alabama, Jerry Reed, John Anderson. I could go on and on. If you like a touch of bluegrass, check out Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder. Ricky had a few country albums, along with some Christian stuff, too. But his bluegrass stuff is amazing.

When I was first learning guitar I would watch Roy Clark and listen to Hendrix and Clapton. My favorite country artist were David Allen Coe, Hank Jr. Waylon and Willie. Beyond them I'm lost. Must of had something to do with my conversion. My kids like Rascal Flats, Taylor Swift, and Carrie Underwood.

George Strait! Willie Nelson. Martina McBride. There are so many! Some current country comin' out of NashVegas ain't bad. I certainly wouldn't tell anyone to not give it a try. There's been some really good stuff in the past 20 years.
