the U.S. will be involved in, according to this article:

http://cryptogon.com/?p=27827

Apparently, not only does NBC continue to present McCaffrey to its viewers as some sort of objective analyst, but NBC News executives use him as some kind of private consultant and briefer on the news. On January 12, 2012, McCaffrey presented a seminar to roughly 20 NBC executives and producers — including NBC News President Steve Capus — entitled “Iran, Nukes & Oil: The Gulf Confrontation.” We’ve obtained the Power Point document McCaffrey prepared and distributed for his presentation, and in it, he all but predicts war with Iran within the next 90 days: one that is likely to be started by them.

And this may lead to WWIII. Don't mean to sound like some kind of nut, but we should be watching and listening, of course.

If the other rhetoric surrounding this is anything to go by, if we do end up attacking Iran, Russia has said in no uncertain terms that they will consider it an attack on them as well.

Very tense times, indeed.

Don't forget China too. It said if Iran is attacked, it'll be WWIII. :( Lord, have mercy.

I cannot even fathom the minds of the people who think this is a good idea. Lord, save us.

It's centered around greed and power - these two sins (intertwined with pride) seem to bring down a lot of people. :(

Evil minds that plot destruction...

Sorcerers of death's destruction...

In the fields the bodies burning...

As the war machine keeps turning..

Now you got me doing it! ^_^

Now I have Ozzy stuck in my head.

It gives me the willies how Russia provides arms to Iran knowing they are a terrorist state and what they use them for. Russia's cozy relationship with the oppressive state of China bugs me, too.

But in the end I cannot imagine China going to war with the U.S. over Iran. I could believe Russia might, but not China. China's biggest buyer is the U.S. We buy all their cheap, plastic junk. Without us, the suckers willing to buy their products, they're over and done with. Just as we need them to borrow money for our absurd debts, they need us to keep buying their goods. A war between China and the U.S. seems a bad idea for both sides. I can't imagine China caring more about Iran, a state of lunatic mullahs and extremists, more than their own $$$$....

I agree. But I don't underestimate the Iranians' ability to smuggle a dirty bomb into the U.S. or wake up some terror cells here stateside. Akmadinejad is a certified fruitcake and he believes in his Madhi apocalyptic insanity. He would love to give us some payback if we bomb their nuclear facilities. Heck, maybe Israel can do it for us! ^_^

Ive heard of imminent airstrikes on Iran, meaning within a few months. An all out war im not too sure, rumors of wars with Iran have been spoken of for about a decade now.

No. I don't believe there will be a face-to face war, even if it starts, it won't be widespread. Just like the Cold War, countries will keep threatening one another. Besides, Iran is exaggerating its military power very much. It will face the same end with Iraq, the country which has "endless and strong brigades and a nation devoted to Saddam". Even Russia and China are turning against the Arab World- accepting the need for urgent humanitarian aid and ceasefire in Syria, and voting for it in the EU Council. The Arab countries- they already have problems bigger than that- even if they come together and help Iran, remember the Yom Kippur War. So in each possibility, Iran is next to being alone, and loser.

Iran's economy is already messed up, so I don't believe it will go with the petroleum ban. Its economy cannot finance a war.

Just keep in mind that with the current government of my country, the States may not find an ally... in minor Asia.

Would Turkey really side with Iran given that Iran is their major rival for regional power and on the opposite side of the Sunni / Shi'ite fence? If so, then Turkey's turn towards Islamicization is strong indeed; they'd have a lot to gain by being the US's ally against Iran.

For the record, I don't think it likely that this would turn into a world war. It might turn into a PROXY war (with the US aiding and funding Israel, and Russia or China aiding / funding Iran), but short of a nuclear option neither China nor Russia has the military (esp. naval) to engage in a conventional war with the US. That's not a slight against either Russia or China, but just the reality of the US still having a full cold-war-era military budget. Both Russia and China do have ICBM's, and those would do damage, but again (unless they use nukes, which is unlikely) they couldn't do enough damage to the US to stop our military infrastructure using just conventional-payload ICBM's. In a head-to-head war with the US, they'd lose more than we would and, as has been pointed out, BOTH would lose. Russia, China, and the US NEED one another for their globalized economies. The US has no incentive to want to go to war with either China or Russia, and vice versa.

Could it happen? Sure. Is it likely? I don't think so.

Is it likely that Israel attempts a strike against Iran? Yes. VERY. Probably immanently. A regional war seems a plausible result, with foreign backing / posturing. I don't see it extending beyond that unless things just turn catastrophically insane. Our governments may be selfish, but they are rationally selfish - Iran's government I trust a lot less (e.g. I think they will start a war if Israel doesn't).
