  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I failed my initial glucose test and I have to take the more extensive one on Monday. Does this mean that I have diabetes? How does this affect Justin? What does this extensive test entail? I am freaking out just a little bit here...

First of all, calm down. Stress is not good for you or the baby. For the extensive test you drink the glucose drink and have your blood drawn for 3 consecutive (sp?) hours.

This does not mean you have diabetes, even if you fail the 3 hour test although you will have a greater risk for diabetes in the future. What this means is that your body is not getting rid of the sugar like it should while you are pregnant.

So if you have it, you have to watch what you eat or Justin will be a pretty big baby! I had it with my last baby and he ended up weighing 7 lbs. 3 oz. Plus I didn't gain as much weight with him because I watched what I ate. I thought to start with that I couldn't do it, but it was pretty easy once I figured out what to do.

I had to go to a training class and learn what to eat and what not to eat. You have to check your sugars 3 times a day to make sure you are not getting too much sugar during the day.

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. ;-)

Prissanna pretty much said it all. Don't get to stressed though God is in control and everything will be fine! You may not even have it. When I had the first test done I did a lot of research on it and found that even if you fail the first test that doesn't mean you have it. Just take it one test at a time and go from there. I'll be praying for you!!

I was slightly over on my 1 hour
I had to do a 3 hour (4 draws, one fasting, and one each hour after drinking the yuck).

out of the 4 draws 1 number (the 1 hour) was over by 1 point.

because it was over they called me "glucose intolerant".

They treat this the same as someone who is gestationally diabetic by having me go to "diabetic counciling" to learn how to eat properly so that I don't become diabetic.

The one difference is that they only poked my finger once per week at my appointments to make sure my sugars were okay.... if you truly have "gestational diabeties" they will have you get your own finger poker and have you test your sugars 2 times per day.

Don't worry because most almost everyone I know that failed their 1 hour glucose passed their 3 hour.

The whole Gestational Diabetes thing is rather controversial...
Here is another viewpoint: http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/gdhgoer.html

and here is a Fabulous eating plan, especially for those who pregnancy induced "issues": http://www.blueribbonbaby.org/

HTH~
Thank you for posting that..I didn't know how to write "I don't believe in gestational diabetes" and have it come out right.

The Brewer diet so rocks- and I love that it regular, inexpensive, easily attainable food.
