No problem they will just adjust the name like they did King County, which became ML King county so washington will just become the state of Geo Washington Carver

I don't see that as being so bad. One was a great man that made actual contributions to humanity, the other was a slaveholder who opportunistically aided a rebellion against lawful English authority.

George Washington statue toppled by Portland protesters | Daily Mail Online

Well first they got Jefferson....now they destroyed Washington.

Can we admit this was never about the Confederacy or their monuments? The only criteria for these deplorable people is the statue has to be a white guy.

That action reminds me of the Taliban destroying all the historical heritage sites that they controlled. How sad. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

And founded a nation upon ideals which allowed for the other guy to make those contributions to humanity.

Only after most other civilized countries had outlawed slavery. England had abolished slavery decades before the United States, and it did so within a parlimentary monarchy.

Equating statues of a revered figure like the Buddha, who advocated a way of life of nonviolence and non-possession, with statues of a slaveholder doesn't make sense.

Civilized countries?

England had abolished slavery decades before the United States, and it did so within a parlimentary monarchy.

My goodness....well that settles it. I'm sure they definitely didn't continue buying and selling slaves after that.

Oops...well kinda....

After Abolition: Britain and the Slave Trade Since 1807 | Origins: Current Events in Historical Perspective

Realistically, they continued slavery for decades after it was outlawed. They at least continued to profit off it for a century.

Even as an outsider I see the obvious pattern here. These protesters (read rioters) are always moving the goal post. First was the police, then was the confederate statues, then it was Jesus' statue, then it was not owning businesses and then utter destruction of the US.

First they came for the police, I didn't speak out
- for I was not a police
Then they came for the far right, I didn't speak out
- for I was not far right
Then they came for the conservatives, I didn't speak out
- for I was not a conservatives
Then they came for the centrist, I didn't speak out
- for I was not a centrist
Then they came for the classical liberals. I did't speak out
- for I was not a liberal
Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak for me
