I have read most of the posts in the 6 pages of history on this topic and I have not seen one mention of Satan, the devil, the father of lies, etc. The works of the devil are how you account for generational curses. Some easy examples of such are homosexuality, diseases that follow a family line and behaviors that go thru family generations such as anger, abuse or divorce.

Look at the lies in that list of maladies. Confusion about sexual identity; the lie that an offspring will suffer with a disease that a parent or grand parent had. The lie that a family has a history of early death. People live in fear from these generational curses and fear is the exclusive domain of the devil. It would take too much space to to make a fairly complete list of what people suffer from generational curses. The idea is that generational curses are one of many deception tactics used by Satan to derail us in our faith walk.

God, in early times, sent curses down through the generation. It was done only in the Old Covenant and positively not done at all in the New Covenant. Satan copied the idea of sending curses down through the generations. This was a clever tactic because he has uninformed people blaming heredity or God for generational curses or denying them completely.

The Good News is that Christ has given us complete and absolute victory over the devil and anything that the devil or his demons could throw at us. Rejoice in this and again I say rejoice.

I may be excoriated for not including scripture but we do understand the attributes of the devil through the reading of scripture. Without scripture, we wouldn't know that we have Satan or demons as enemies of our soul. Instead, we would have to think, like many do now. "Oh well," they would say with a shrug. "That's just the way things are."

I would call Satan's attempt to perpetrate sins or sickness throughout families generational tactics, not generational curses.

The problem is people are referring to verses where God is doing the curses - and the remedy people cite involves getting delivered from curses that God inflicts.

Since Satan's generational tactics in the life of a Christian aren't God's doings, we don't address them like we would if we were trying to get free from a curse from God - which happens when we are born again. To fight against generational tactics, we need to apply New Testament spiritual principles, not Old Testament curse principles.

Curses that God commanded in the OT would affect you whether you believed in it or not. The "curses" that Satan tries to apply have no power over you - only the ground that you surrender through unbelief.
