• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey guys;

I've put a few posts in the outreach section, then scrolling through your other forums stumbled across this one.

I may not be xtian, but feel I may have something to add to this forum. I was diagnosed with BP2 just over a year ago, and after some rocky periods have gotten control over my condition using therapy and meds and am now living a happy and fulfilling life. I may be an atheist but don't worry, I won't even talk about that in this forum.

So anyway, hi, nice to meet you!

Best wishes;

RP

Welcome to our forum. This place is wonderful and very supportive. We do talk openly about our faith, so as long as that don't offend you, you are welcome here!!! I also deal with BP2 and finally found a good medicine, and with therapy as well, am back to work dealing with life the best I can. Still struggle greatly with rest/sleep and the insomnia piece, some anxiety but by and large are in a nice phase for now. ALso check out Healthyplace for their bp forum. Not sure if dbpsa or NAMI have forums now, haven't looked in awhile. So Welcome!

Welcome to the board... :) Nice to see a new face. There have been so many new people coming lately that it is such a blessing. Anyway, what Laurie ^^ said is true, we do talk about our faith a bit here, so hopefully that won't offend you in any way. I don't think that anyone here will "attack" you for being athiest or whatever. It's a lovely, supportive place and I'm glad that you decided to join us. :) My name's April, btw, and you'll probably see me posting a fair bit. Most of the fellowship goes on in the coffee shop thread (stickied) so feel free to introduce yourself there. Oh, and I have bipolar II as well. :) I, however, am NOT in a stable place... which is why support means a great deal to me right now. Take care, and again, welcome!! :hug:

How are you going? Let me introduce myself my name is Gerry and I carry a few labels, Schizo-affective and P.T.S.D, this has kept me fully occupied for the last 14 years or so. Though I have been sick all my life, I kept it hidden, even from my wife and kids at first, until a full blown psychosis wrecked my hidden life in just a few days - all my hard work perished down the tube and I could begin to untangle myself from my inner misery.

Good to see you joining us, I don't think your faith is going to bother us, as long as you don't get bothered by our faith, for to many of us this also very important.

Where about in Australia do you come from? I live near Albany, W.A and love living here, as Albany is a quiet relaxed little city and where I live about 20 km out of town it is even quieter. This suits me just fine.

Originally I'm Dutch, I came to Australia when I was 19 (1980) found myself a wife, Yvonne, got married (1982) and received a handful of kids, who have all grown up now, though 2, 21 and 22 are still at home. I'm also the proud grandfather to three grand children, Ella(2), Jake(11 months) and Connor (8 months), they are the love of my life, especially Ella at 2 is totally adorable.

I have taken Yvonne through Hell but she has stayed faithfully by my side and has helped me more than anyone to understand how to stay away from my horrific voices and the finer things of loving commitment. I will always be indebted to her.

Anyway feel welcome and have a nice day further.

Gerry:wave:

Wow thatnks for the nice welcome!

No, I won't be offended by any talk of faith, I recognise that this is an xtian forum and have read all the forum rules. Actually, I did debate with myself for a while before jumping in the BP forum as I was worried that you guys might be offended! Anyway, the reason why I joined christianforums was to gain a better insight into the xtain way of thinking and world view, so hey, knock yourselves out. If, however, faith is something you'd like to discuss with me further, you can find me knocking around the outreach section. I don't keep my BP secret so also feel free to bring it up in those threads, I'm really not too fussed :)

Gerry, another Westie yew! I actually have family in your area. I hail from the suburbs around Perth, about 20 mins drive from the CBD north of the river. I also have family with PTSD so will be interested to read your posts.

Cheers;

RP

PS: btw, my real name (ironically) is Grace, seeing as we are doing proper introductions :)

Hi Grace pleased to meet you. I have lived in Perth for 13 years, Armadale and also worked as a detached youth worker in Balga, Koondoola and Girraween for three years. (and also often central Perth and North Bridge.)

We came to Albany in 1993 three years before my life came crumbling and a full blown psychosis laid me bare for all to see. 14 years of Hell followed, four major hospitalisation, 7 years of manic depression in one unbroken stretch, 1 1/2 years of those suicidally depressed. Yet finally E.C.T, halted most of the screaming in my head and more than halved the intensity of my depression, good medication and taking good care of myself along the way done the rest. I'm only just starting to get back on my feet the last 2 years or so. I found that my grand children have been one of the main contributing factors that have given me a renewed desire for life, I totally adore them.

Should be fun, you joining us.

I hope you have a great time.
