What is it, specifically, about the description of the Garden being guarded by a cherubim and flaming sword that makes you think they are symbolic? Why do you not also think the story of the Garden of Eden is symbolic?I think too that the Cherubims and the flaming sword were symbolic: that the way, or path, to the tree of (eternal) life could not be 'freely eaten' and would now come only through the sacrifice of Christ.
Interestingly, your appeal to the multiverse hypothesis in order to defend your view is similar to the atheist appeal to the multiverse hypothesis in order to discount the strong anthropic principle. All this despite the fact that there is really no good evidence for a multiverse.I don't have any other way to answer the question. And the one I said is at least acceptable in theoretical science. If paradise were the Garden, then Christian who died could get in. In that case, I am not sure what are the cherubs doing at the gate. May be to stop non-Christians.

Where is it?
When did it disappear off the earth?
I think there is a possibility that the non-existence of the Garden of Eden in the present day suggests that the reading of Genesis 2 shouldn't be an extreme literalistic reading.
Any thoughts?
Maybe not scientific evidence. But at least the Bible makes plenty of mention of spirits and spirituality. It says nothing about the Garden of Eden being magically whisked off to Dimension X with Krang and Rock Soldiers.Well, this illustrates a common feature that theist and atheist see the same thing, but have contrastive belief. To understand the nature of time may be a good way to appreciate the possibility of multiverse.
There is no good evidence of spirit either.

But why? Most likely it was taken a way with flood, but it was there at one time. If you can not believe that then toss your bible in the trash.

Supposedly the deluge destroyed Eden.

Gen. 1:6-8 documents that the 1st Firmament or Heaven was made on the 2nd Day - Garden of Eden.
Gen. 2:4-5 documents that the 2nd (our world) and 3rd Heavens were made on the 3rd Day (New Jerusalem).
Based on my own understanding of the Genesis, the garden of Eden was situated on the first heaven made on the 2nd day - surrounded by midst of waters above and below it - which was completely destroyed by the universal flood during the time of Noah.
I believe, there were numerous worlds made during the creation process:
Gen. 1:6-8 documents that the 1st Firmament or Heaven was made on the 2nd Day - Garden of Eden.
Gen. 2:4-5 documents that the 2nd (our world) and 3rd Heavens were made on the 3rd Day (New Jerusalem).
IOW, Scripture documents that there are 3 Heavens (kosmos or worlds) -- Read ll Peter 3:5-7 which explain how God spoke of the world that THEN WAS, being overflowed with water, Perished. (Greek-Destroyed, Totally). Our present world were made on the 3rd day. Revelation 21:1-2 document us another world (New Jerusalem) where all Christians will live when this present world is totally destroyed by fire as prophecied in the Scripture.
Just my humble opinion based on the Scripture.
God Bless
