  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I like breaking into Nova Prospekt best - that's a little while to go yet.
Nova Prospekt? That's where I was headed at the very beginning
of the game when the CP opened the door and took me to
Barney who gave me the crowbar lol

Hmmm, the plot thickenz lol

I loved that CP who took the soda pop can out of the garbage,
threw it on the ground & then made me pick it up & throw
it back in the trash can ^_^ I wanted to mess him up, but
I had no weapons yet LOL :holy:

What's REALLY awesome are the YouTube walkthru's if you get
stuck somewhere. The internet can be awesome

I think I'm on Chapter 4 or 5 now - Hazardous Water?
Taking that boat thing down the river - I got to the blue cans.

Ohhh very interesting -

I love a good story line during a game.

I got past that part w/ the blue barrells & into a building off the river... I guess I have to get the wall to lift from there before I can continue
thru the kanal in my trusty boat thingy (that works on land
and in water lol).

Pretty heavily guarded so far

Have you ever played an mmofps? Massively Multiplayer Online First Person Shooter ^_^ It’s basically a virtual battlefield. Not small terrain maps on short timers but huge world areas with 1000’s of players waging never-ending wars.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but I find them pretty fun. Most people don’t like them because they are subscription based, like $10-$15/mo to play.

I played PlanetSide for about two years, that was a fantastic game. I took a break starting about a year ago after they made some changes that really nerfed my hard work, nerfed my Eagle. I put all my game time to get the Eagle certificate (BFR - battlefield robotics) which is a mech warrior… I have an old forum avatar I made of my Eagle:
pslogo.gif

Excellent terrestrial sci-fi battlefield. Fast action and very addictive.

Other one I played was World War II Online. The map is half the size of Europe on scale. Love the massive tank battles and the aircraft are really good simulators with heavy punch. Action a little slower though, more realistic, one shot death many times, takes more time to play. Fun though.

Anyway, something to keep in mind for when you wear out the orange box someday :D I think they both have free trials, I know WWII Online does. PS most likely does.

oh my, no I've never heard of the massive multiplayer stuff.

Sounds like alot of fun tho. I know what you mean about
disliking the changes made. Sometimes things are better left
alone.

Just yesterday a man was interviewed who took a poll on
vid games and his conclusion was that they are addictive
to kids.
Not all get addicted, but they showed the signs of addiction
by not getting other important work done first, not being
able to play less, lying to be able to play [or for longer].

He said that he didn't expect to come to this finding & was
surprised. I could of told him that tho lol
I get addicted to games very easily. :holy:

But anyways, I'll keep it in mind if I ever play multiplayer.
Multiplayer intimidates me becuz I have a feeling that I
suck ^_^

Yeah I heard that last night on a KWVE news update, that there was a report on Fox News yesterday in which a study discovered video games can be addictive for children. Some guest interview on some show about it. Anyway, this is not new information ;) has been studied again and again, but good that it’s getting some attention in the media. Of course there are always scoffers, if you want to get into a serious debate, post that in the gamers zone here at cf lol, it's a rough forum.

It’s strange that the games that seem most addictive, most popular, are either games where they focuses on a cold blooded killing spree or are loaded with Occult content/imagery.

Anyway, it’s not just kids playing games, the average age of a gamer is something like 27. They have been reported to be quite addictive among adults as well. In fact, game playing has become an industry, mainly among mmorpg games where in second and third world nations they employ people to harvest things like in-game currency and resources then sell the goods online for cash. Some do this from home as well, even in the US, gathering resources or developing accounts for sell. Of course there are games completely committed to real money exchange such as Second-Life where they convert real currency into game currency and then back again. Many people run in-game shops where they sell their in-game digital art to people then convert and transfer those funds to their real bank account.

But yeah, as far as for addiction, you just gotta 1. Monitor your kids 2. Set time limits for yourself. About ten yeas ago, I was either working, sleeping or playing an mmorpg on any given day hehe (mmorpg‘s the most addictive). That was pretty much life for a while, and my days off from work meant sometimes 18hrs of playing games a day lol. It was mainly a result of a spiritual low-point, so since then made sense of it and manage my time much better. Still a major influence of course, but I regulate my gaming time.

Additionally, I’ve funneled my interest into real-life skills, mainly into multimedia. So as far as video games go in that interest, I have spent time learning to some degree all aspects of video game development over the past six years or so. Not limited to that of course, digital illustration is something I enjoy doing, but I would say my focus is on video game art resources, such as modeling and texturing which is not easy to learn and develop skills with at all.

Oh did I mention? I'm seriously looking forward to this game: Star Trek Online Official Site
Years of waiting and watching failed attempts leading into vapor ware :p As long as it's not as bad as Star Wars Galaxies :D but that is hard to beat on the scale of complete failures. As long as I can wage war on the Federation, I'm a happy Klingon ^_^

Nadiine what did you expect the researcher say to that he confirmed his own bais and manage to manipulate the data but good.;)
lol, he expected it wasn't true at all... he figured that it was
just 'out of touch' parents who just don't get gaming.

I get addicted to games pretty easily if I really like it.
I was really bad w/ RE4 lol (my first game since a 10 yr. hiatus).

Who knows - but even if he's right I don't see how that
changes anything

vapor ware hehee

You know one of the greatest tools to help know if a game sux
is YouTube walkthrough's/gameplay. I always go there to see
games people tell me to play.

You can see it being played all the way thru & see if something
that looks good to you. Gosh I would of loved that years back.
& I'd probly still be stuck in a few areas right now if I didn't get help lol

Yeah, vaporware is what they call a game project that gets canceled during development. Usually in such cases, a development studio is running over budget (happens a lot) and the investors pull the plug. If it is a franchise game, like Star Trek Online, they give rights to another studio to finish the work. Usually though, they just fade away forever, but for franchise games with serious investors they sometimes put the project in some other studios hands. Happened with Lord of the Rings Online too, that was originally done by Sierra, but they vapored it and years later Vivendi games picked up the license, though didn’t acquire any of the work from the original game project and started from scratch. I think the most infamous vaporware game… well not officially that but has been “secretly” in development for like 12 years lol, is Duke Nukem Forever by 3D Realms. No one knows what to make of that, running joke of some sort, but they claim it’s in development still :D and even yet another date for release for later this year.

Here is a game that is not vaporware ^_^ but then it’s nothing special. I made it last year as a side project, just took a few months and primarily testing my licensed commercial game engine for the main project I have been working on for years. I finished this game, but since then there were some changes with the scripting language so need to rewrite all my scripts when I get time, which is no big deal. It is simply an mmorpg where players take on the role of either a bear or lion and experience the fight for survival in a dark and evil forest. Graphics are retro style mmorpg, tried to somewhat recreate the old EverQuest feel of Greater Faydark and got it fairly close, but not a duplicate of course. I know you have no idea what I’m referring to hehe. Runs well though :)

Nadiine one of the main groups behind the study was National Institute on Media and the Family an adovacy group with a questionable record at best and who operate under the delusion that most gamers are kids and that all games are designed for kids.
