Okay, so this question regards the lottery. Ive read articles which say that the lottery is bad, but ive also read some that say its okay to not do it to excess. The one that said it was bad brought up the arguement about having greed, but i dont exactly have that in my case. I wanted to use the lottery not so much to win a boat load of money, but really just to give myself enough money to escape my current situation, a few hundred at best. I do work but it is not quite enough and I just wanted some advice as to whether or not it'd be a good idea or not.

There’s nothing wrong with gambling as a hobby. I know plenty of people who, say, play blackjack for fun and any losses are just chalked up to the cost of entertainment, the same you would for going to Disneyworld or on a cruise.

Gambling for profit is only feasible if you’re very skilled at it and are more skilled than your competitors. Playing the lottery for profit is just stupid.

AS,

From a financial standpoint, the issue isn’t the possibility of developing an addiction. Most don’t. The problem is the collective result of siphoning away small dollar amounts over a long period of time. The majority give little consideration to spending $10 dollars per week for the chance to win more.

But as the author of The Millionaire Next Door once noted about his parents smoking habit, “if they’d invested the money in Phillip Morris stock (owner of Malboro) they’d be millionaires.”

You don’t need to play the lottery. You need more income. The amount you’ve mentioned is small. Can you get a part-time job? Retail companies will be hiring for the holidays and usually start now.

My daughter worked at JoAnn’s once and said it was her favorite job. The atmosphere and customers were nice because you’re dealing with crafters. They get a lot of foot traffic.

Yours in His Service,

~Bella
