Delicately. And you "deal" with them primarily through your future spouse. Takes some working things out and some consideration. By the time my wife and I were marrying we were in our 40s, so a lot of maturity had already been developed. But her best friend for many many years was a man. Luckily for me I suppose, he was a very devout and considerate Muslim man who out of respect for me simply began bowing out of his relationship with her. And quite frankly that made me all the more wish he hadn't, because she still misses his friendship to this day, and I have absolutely no worries about her being unfaithful.

But again, we were mature. For younger people, things may need to be hashed out, but delicately. Make the wrong moves and push too hard to "cut so and so off" and you may end up being the one that gets cut off.

You are never alone with a member of the opposite sex and you are totaly open and honest about friendships/work relationships with the opposite sex.
eg Billy Graham when dictating lettersetc to a secretary, he would always eave the door to his office wide open.

If you ensure that there are no opertunities for friendship to turn into lust you'll both protect your marriage.

Good question.... I had wondered about this too.... What about social media when exchanging private conversations even if it's about general stuff like "how ya doing" that sort of thing. FB has an option of creating a group conversation so if I'm gonna talk to a member of the opposite sex, I include my boyfriend. One of our friends like to share "dirty" jokes which is fine as long as he's in the conversation too
