5-8 inches of snow is forecast to fall in south Mississippi tonight and tomorow morning. We are not equipped for such displays of nature's fury, and will probably lose electic power for some time anyway. Work will almost inevitably be cancelled.

What to do in the time we're stuck at home with no electricity?

(The more original and weird the ideas, the better)

Shadow puppets on the wall, created with flashlights are always fun.
playing cards or board games don't require power :)

I live in the mountains so i always keep wind-up emergency radios around.
The last one I bought even lets you hook an MP3 player up to it.
Make sure you have plenty of batteries and LED flashlights for everyone.
If you have those solar powered landscape lights in the yard, you can bring them in for extra light. Be extra careful if you use candles or oil lamps.
Do you have a gas stove? If so, you can still cook. If not, you can use an outdoor grill or camping stove to cook with (outdoors only) :)
Have fun! :)

P.S. be sure to dwaw up extra water, in case the towns water pumps fail.

Good ideas, thanks!

If it were up to my wife (who is a bookworm), she would have me hold a flashlight for her while she reads a book! :sigh:
:D

Battery powered LED "booklights" cost about 5.00, but I prefer to use a strap on head light.
Husky from Home Depot, and Everyready make good lights for not too much money (5.00 - 15.00)

I've told her all that. I'm sure she'd still rather me do it all the same.

That's just the kind of relationship we have. I'm nuts about her, and she's nuts about me being nuts about her!

There used to be a televised game show called "Make Me Laugh." The concept of the show was for contestants to sit in a chair in the middle of the stage and a series of comedians would have one minute to try to make that person laugh. The contestant would win if they could make it through three comedians without laughing.

Panic. Keep your ears covered, especially if there are loud cars nearby. Keep your flashlight and your Bible handy (demons, they're everywhere!). No swearing!

On a serious note, talk with God's Holy Spirit. My father once prayed to God when his car engine was almost out of gas. He managed to drive back home with (if I recall correctly) a depleted engine. God kept that engine going. Maybe your house will be the only one with electricity.

How can one sleep without a fan running! ? !

For the love of all things good GET A BATTERY OPERATED FAN!

That's what the wife is for. If necessary, I can have her sitting nearby making a constant "HMMMMMMMM..." noise and using a piece of cardboard to move air in my direction.

After all, it's a power outage. What else does she have to do.
