  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I have a question: how does 666 even go with the anime Fullmetal Alcimest because my parents checked it out and they saw a part of a hexigam or however its spelt and my dad checked it out and some information said its 6 within a six with in a six.

I dont understand. And now my parents wont let me watch an anime played at midnight. How does a 6 6 6 even go with the show?

Thanks.

Simple answer: having seen the first 49 episodes of the series (my computer died before I watched episode 50), there isn't anything to do with 666 in it, nor is there any anti-Christian sentiment either (the religion at the beginning is very blatantly not Christianity; later in the series, the references to Christianity are veiled and very general, referring more to the hostility and intolerance of some members of the faith than anything else, and are only mentioned in a couple places near the end; the Ishbalan religion is also very generally outlined, and not much is said in-depth about it).

Complex answer: a hexagram is a six-pointed star, and usually is rather ambiguously used in anime (a six-pointed star without a circle around it is a Star of David, a symbol of Judaism). A pentagram (five-pointed star) appears in the transmutation circle used to seal the homunculi, but the Japanese throw that symbol around very haphazardly (and usually it appears normal-oriented, not inverted; inverted pentagrams are the ones identified with Satanism nowadays, but were used in other features for centuries, as were normal-oriented ones; some can even be found on Christian churches), and the one in FMA is normal-oriented.

The crucified snake symbol that also appears in the homunculus-sealing circle (and on most FMA merchandise) is a traditional symbol of alchemy, and dates back to the Middle Ages (and actually is a variation of Hermes' staff, if I'm not mistaken; Hermes' staff is used as the symbol for the medical sciences - two snakes wrapped around a single rod).

They showed a seven-pointed star once... Maybe a reference for Australia? *Bricked*

I saw the entire series, and well, it was interesting, but I don't really see too much bad with it. I also have seen nothing conflicting with Christianity, except for the fact that in the realm in the series Christianity supposedly died a while back. In the Japanese version, Izumi states, while showing Ed a letter from his father, that they used a calendar from an old religion no longer in practice, Christianity. Other than that, I don't see much wrong with it.

It would be only natural for many anime in general to portray worldviews associated with Buddism, Toaist, Shintoism, and other native Japanese religions. In other words, it's pagan. Much of what is used which is outside that sphere the writers of animes don't appear to do their homework, the Christian faith included.

In Evangelion as another example, it was Jewish mysticsm known as Kabbalah which was used with scant traces of referance to questionable Christian relics as a groundwork for the series.

I recall hearing once that due to nature of the culture, myths, and religious backgrounds there's also a barrier in which Christianity would have to be explained in terms that was more understandable. For example, should one say "Jesus Christ is God"...one has to recall Japenese traditions refer to many deities, gods, an goddesses where there is no god above the rest. One has to be even more specific in saying what they mean. The same goes for the Biblical doctrines of creation, sin, and redemption. Much akin to what St. Paul did in Ancient Rome. After all, Rome was a pagan society who also did not have the needed background like the Jews did when Jesus was among them during His earthly ministry or when the Disiple Peter preached to them.

I've only seen up to 26 episodes of FMA. As with the other anime I watch, one needs to discern the Japanese culture and worldview will be differnt and will have a heavy influence within their programming. The prensence of the occult is to be expected if only due to where the anime orginated.

As for not being allowed to watch "Adult Swim", I will note there are also anime shows during the day that hold occultic themes as well whether disguised in a certain form or other.

It all goes back too learning to discern.
