When I was reading the Catechism a few months ago, I remember that it talked about full immersion baptism as one that held a special significance.

Is full immersion baptism performed anywhere in the Latin rite?
Most certainly is. It depends on how the Church was built. I know some that have simple Baptistries. I also know some where you can be fully immersed.

it is permissible
but it is not common in the USA
if an adult convert requests one, I assume it would be allowed
I used to travel to different churches around Easter. We attended the Vigil where new Catholics were baptized. My personal experience would say otherwise. It's fairly common.

Please ignore--SKIP--the ugly ad at the beginning of the youtube video; it's easy to do, and get to this gorgeous full immersion Catholic baptism.

Also, in a another Thread on this subject, about a week ago, maybe a bit longer?

I shared, as did a couple others, about our experience witnessing, taking part in, being aware of numerous Catholic full immersion baptisms.

I shared about our home parish St. Didacus, here in San Diego, in which my husband helped the new converts (and our parish priest is just a plain ordinary one, nothing makes him stand out except he's got a great sense of humor, adores children as they adore him, and his Irish eyes do smile a lot).

I'm surprised by the number of Catholics who accept and pass on misinformation--no one specific in mind, especially not the OP--because it is so easy to just Google or faster/easier--and something so many do for other topics and 'debates'--youtube it:

That is how I got this short video because 'seeing is believing', sometimes , and I don't have any photos of St. Didacus' baptisms, a Latin Rite parish; we even have a Spanish-translated Sunday Mass because our Latino population merits one in size, enthusiasm, need and being inspiring:

I love the annual Our Lady of Guadalupe play in which the children play all the roles: Oh it is so... Well, I can't stop grinning when I watch, and there is no room for everyone who comes: we line the walls, sit on the floor, take turns sitting in the pews...

And when I say 'surprised' that is all I mean--no ill-intentions. And I shouldn't be surprised. You could ask me any number of questions about San Diego, a city I've lived in, off and on, for a long, long time--I wouldn't know the answers, and I might not be able to Google or youtube it, but hey, now?

Pass it on:

Many Catholic churches, United States and outside, do full immersion--even a Protestant knew this ^_^ He shared in the other Thread and was summarily dismissed (I like the word summarily) by those who wanted to keep their misconception that full immersion is, hmm, Protestant, maybe?

(I want a shrug smilie; I feel like shrugging, you know, like 'such is life'--lead me to the smilie police, the smilie innovators, the smilie lovers)

:bye:
