  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Greetings all....
I thought this might be a neat way to share scripture and have fellowship. Take a picture of the verse you are sharing (from your own Bible). Feel free to comment too!

I will start with Proverbs 3:24-25
Verse 25 is a great comfort to me. God will take care of the next minute for me, "be not afraid of sudden fear"

I have reflected often on Psalm 49 when I feel jealous of those who "have it all"

I have to slow down and remember, I have a greater reward waiting in heaven. Riches and toys stored up on earth will not transfer with me! Verse 16-20 here-

Thank-you for starting this thread:; it's a beautiful way for us to Praise God and to grow in our knowledge of His Word.

Psalm 59:6-16 (English Standard Version)
Psalm 59:16b "For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress." This speaks to me as I'm going through health problems at the moment. It reminds me that God is my fortress and He will provide me with the strength to get through my health problems. Nothing is too great for Him.
God Bless you.

Matthew 6:19-34
19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

These verses remind me to store my treasures in heaven and not on earth. All things on earth will come to pass but heaven is eternal. It also reminds me to consider what are my "treasures"? What matters the most to me? My husband and sons are my true treasures.

God bless

bcmom-thanks for sharing that. See post #2, a favorite chapter of mine (Psalm 49) is right along those lines-and another in Ecclesiastes 5:10.......gathering riches/wealth will not make us happy, it is vanity or empty.

Mark 11:25-26
Forgiveness....I struggle with this. I do pray about this and I do forgive those who I feel have done me wrong. Where the stuggle comes in, if that person is mentioned at a later time, the feelings of "they did me wrong" come back (not always but sometimes). Have I really let it go? Have I really forgave them? I pray to God to take it from me!

Tp552 I used to think I struggled with forgiveness as well until a Christian counsellor gave me a useful definition of forgiveness. "Forgiveness is giving up our right to revenge". Well the bible says "vengeance is mine saith The Lord" so Christ has already taken the burden of revenge for us - and I do believe it's a burden, it eats away at our soul so Christ took it from us to spare us -
The counsellor went on to explain "Trust is giving them ( those that have hurt us) the chance to do it again". When I searched my heart, what I found was I really had struggled with was trust, not forgiveness. And I gave that to The Lord. I hope this helps you in some way my brother.
God Bless

That does help and makes sense! I appreciate that!

Genesis 11:1-20
Genesis 11:1-20

The Tower of Babel

1 Now the whole earth had one language and the same words.

2 And as people migrated from the east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar and settled there.

3 And they said to one another, "Come, let us make bricks, and burn them thoroughly." And they had brick for stone, and bitumen for mortar.

4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a name for ourselves, lest we be dispersed over the face of the whole earth."

5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of man had built.

6 And the LORD said, "Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.

7 Come, let us go down and there confuse their language, so that they may not understand one another's speech."

8 So the LORD dispersed them from there over the face of all the earth, and they left off building the city.

9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there the LORD confused the language of all the earth. And from there the LORD dispersed them over the face of all the earth.

I glean from this scripture that we are not too get arrogant, that it can lead to our undoing.
God shows mercy here too. He could have destroyed the people - He had promised there would never be another flood but He did not promise to never bring down His wrath again - He choose instead of destroying the people on the earth again, whom He loved dearly, to confuse their speech. So, I guess the Tower of Babel is also about mercy.
Any thoughts from anyone else?
God Bless everyone

See if this helps, I copied it from Bible Gateway (great website for different translations of scripture). This is a summary of the 3 chapters;

Gen 13 - Abram is an exemplary man of faith. Being older than Lot, he by custom has first choice of the property, but he waives his right and grants Lot the first choice. Given their recent experiences in the famine, it is no wonder that Lot chooses the lush, fertile soils of the Jordan Valley for his new home. But as Lot moves his family east, he moves farther from Abram and closer to danger.

Gen 14 - This unusual encounter has sparked much interest over the centuries. Melchizedek, it seems, appears out of nowhere. There is no genealogical record for him; he is described simply as the priest-king of Salem, likely a reference to the city that will one day be known as Jerusalem. The Hebrew root of the name Salem means “peace” (shalom). Melchizedek comes in peace, offering the victors a meal to sustain them on their journey home. Abram, in return, gives Melchizedek ten percent of the spoils claimed in battle. There are two other scriptural references to Melchizedek in Psalm 110 and Hebrews 7. The writer of Hebrews compares the priestly role of Jesus to the ancient priestly order of Melchizedek showing that Jesus’ role, like that of Melchizedek, is superior in every way to the later Levitical priests.

Gen 15 - This ritual may sound strange, but it is a common way of making agreements between parties in Abram’s day. The exact meaning is unclear, but the various elements and actions point to one undeniable fact: Abram and the Lord are entering into a relationship that has serious and long-lasting consequences. God’s covenant with Abram changes not only Abram’s future but the future of the world itself.

Yes it does help tp, thanks for posting it. Knowing the customs of the people who lived during biblical times helps us to better understand why they did certain things. I wasn't aware of these customs so it wasn't having meaning, beyond the obvious, to me. When I read the bible, I pray and ask God to show me what he wants me to learn about my life from the Word. In this case, maybe I was meant to learn to ask my brothers and sisters in Christ for help to gain deeper insight into His word :)
God Bless
