  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"I WAS EXCLUSIVELY HOMOSEXUAL; I had never been with a woman."
That's part of the riveting testimony of the Reverend Darryl Foster, a board member of Exodus Global Alliance – a Christian organisation made up largely of former-homosexuals who promote the message that "change is possible through the power of Jesus Christ".

Christ can bring people out of homosexuality if you have faith.

So says Darryl Foster.

Exodus International underwent a very damaging scandal in 1979 when co-founder Michael Bussee left the group with Gary Cooper, a co-organizer of 1976 conference that led to Exodus' inception. Bussee and Cooper had both worked at the local Exodus ministry, and later held a life commitment ceremony.

I find his choice of words interesting: "I had never been with a woman." It seems to me that if he were actually homosexual he would instead claim that he had never been attracted to a woman.

I was thinking the same thing.

Either way, semantics aside, if this guy is genuinely pleased with where he is today, I'm happy for him. However, the blanket statement 'christ can bring people out of homosexuality if you have faith' is troubling to me. While Mr. Foster may feel that that has been his experience, it certainly hasn't been the experience of the majority of the homosexual christian populace. Such a statement seems to me to imply that christians unable to change (or disinterested in changing) their orientation are somehow of lesser faith than those who claim to have gone ex-gay.

Yet another ex-gay who is employed to by the ex-gay movement.

The claims of so-called ex-gays would be a bit more believable if they weren’t paid to say what they are saying.

The title of the article seems to sugest that gay and god are two different extremes. This is only the opinion of some.

There were also some rather odd and telling quotes in the article.

"I was extreme in terms of my feelings for men. I got to the point where I literally hated women; I had no uses for them.

Homosexuality doesn't equate to gynophobia.
I'm hetrosexual myself. I don't hate men.

A lot of things you do in the gay lifestyle are habitual.

It implies that there is such thing as a gay lifestyle. Homosexuality is an attraction to the same gender. He is refering to HIS lifestyle but projecting it to all homosexuals.

I'm a hetrosexual.
You wouldn't say I live the hetrosexual lifestyle.

He believes it is a choice one makes and just as drug addicts and alcoholics can overcome their addictions, so can homosexuals, with the help of God.

Implying that homosexuality is an addiction.
You wouldn't say someone was addicted to hetrosexuality.

The article also makes the common mistake of ussuming sexual orientation is a binary system: straight or gay.
Sexual attraction covers a very broad spectrum.
(I always thought Kinseys scale was way too limited.)

If it woked for him and he's happy then good for him and I wish him happiness. But that doesn't mean it will work for everyone. There are some very content homosexual people and some very unhappy 'ex-gays'.

I still do not understand why some Christians think that homosexuals need to be "healed", or that homosexuality is such an abomination that one needs to be "cured" of it through the power of Christ.

Why aren't Christians forming ex-bi/lesbian ministries as well, after all obviously they must be sinners as well.

You would if he was committing incessent fornication, adulatory, incest, child molestation, or rape with the opposite sex. That person would be a sex fiend or predator. As for a homosexual lifestyle, it is also known as living contrary to one's gender.

I'm not sure this post means anything whatsoever.

I accepted the standard line of thought that homosexuality is stable and unchanging and attempts to change it don't work much, but the more I see, the more I wonder if God can just up and change sexual orientation.

I mean, with God all things are possible. (Matt 19:25-26) So, maybe in what amounts to a small minority of cases, there is a change in sexual orientation brought about by God.

Well, I want to believe it can miraculously change, anyway. :sigh:
