  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Friends first thing is questionable. Women seem to not like to date guy friends cuz they dont wont to lose the friendship with him cuz he is such a great guy. I say, most of the time, if a guy wants to date a girl, and she dont want to, do to not wanting to lose a great friend, is gonna lose it anyways, when she has a relationship with another guy.

Do women prefer to be friends first with a guy before she will consider dating him if she asks her out? or is it perfered he asks you out shortly after meeting you?

I think it really depends on the woman.

I like the idea of being friends first and just getting to know each other. For me that equals no expectations, and no awkwardness. If he wants to ask me out early on I don't have a problem with that, but I prefer to be friends first.

I would prefer to know the person for a couple of weeks before dating them.

Dragging out relationships, guessing if the person likes you or not is very high school. I remember my girl friends in high school flirting with a particular guy for a good six months before getting a date. It was frustrating for them. Why so long? Why the big ritual?

Also, a woman will only have a problem dating a guy friend if that is exactly what he is - a guy friend.

I think it depends on the guy. If I really like him right off the bat and we obviously have a lot in common, I might date him a little after meeting him. But if say the guy is shy and I'm having a hard time getting to know him but I still like him, I would prefer to be friends with him first so I can get the feel for his character.

Once you get in my friend zone, you die there.

So for me, the guy had better register his interest immediately. Then when we date, he can become a 'friend first' of some sort...at least in our first few dates...and if I really like him, then he becomes a boyfriend.

However, the kind of friends first we have initially is the type where attraction is deemed to be expected somewhere along the lines of the 'friendship'.

With friends in the friends zone, don't even go there!

the friend zone is a secular term that I reject. God works in wonderous ways. Surely, if that person is right for you, God can help them to see it over time. But don't take my advice. I'm just an optimistic 18 year old with no life experience what so ever.

I'd like to be friends with the guy first too. I think it would be almost a little weird for a guy to come up that I didn't even know and have him ask me out. Now if it was someone that I knew but didn't know well or really hang out with I think that would be ok.

I love making friends with girls first before going any further. I don't want to make any kind of commitment until I see that we have some degree of compatibility. That is, I want to make sure that we have some kind of potential to be a hot item before taking it any further.

Depends on the guy and the situation. My boyfriend and I started dating immediately, we weren't friends before hand.

Don't discount your own thoughts because of a lack of experience. Often the least jaded answers are those that are the most accurate.

I'm not sure that I could date someone who wasn't already a friend. Go out on dates, sure. But date, no. To be in my friend zone, male or female, means that you've been allowed inside my protective gate. Once you're in, all bets are off.

How are you interested in anyone if you don't know them? Just find someone you think is cute and who might be a christian?

I prefer it if the guy just asks me out if he likes me.

If there's mutual attraction we can go do things together (date) and develop the friendship and the romance at the same time.

I don't understand how people seemingly divorce friendship and romance in their minds. How can you be romantic without being friends too? How do you develop a friendship with someone you're attracted to without it being romantic?
