As far as I can tell, most Christians believe in free will. They also believe that one cannot sin in heaven. How would you reconcile those beliefs?

We all have free will to choose not free will to do anything .
If I had free will to do anything I'd create pizza from nothing at least once a week , and maybe some trees giving diamonds in thier fruits instead of seeds .

In practice we only have free will to choose , we were put in such situations which are not controlled by us like place when we were born , status symbol of our family and our parents were not decided by us aswell .

Likewise in heaven , after we get born again from God and changed to be incorruptible we simply can't sin because there is no ability to sin .
There is no sex in heaven so no sexual urges , there are streets of Gold and everybody has mansion so no motive to steal , there is plenty of food but we don't need to eat or feel hunger , likewise we don't feel thirst .

Adam and Eve could do everything but eat of tree of Good or Evil , if that tree would not be there they would never sin .

That's a great question.
I'd say that in Paradise.....our nation might be a good model. As long as you feel your voice is being heard, then you obey the law by choice. Like your driving across the desert with no other cars in sight, but you drive (close to) the speed limit anyway.

Try a big salad with fruits and nuts every day.

You are using the wrong logic system.

Hebraic block logic (aka adductive logic) can handle such dichotomies easily. The bible writers were NOT followers of Aristotle who laid out the framework of western logic.

Well ... you definitely have a head-start given that those in heaven have CHOSEN to abide under the governance of God. So, these, in general, ... will want NOT to sin in heaven.

I think that I could be comfortable in such a society ... where noone commits INTENTIONAL sin.

But how God gets to the point of having no sin ... from free-willed entities (if such is the real goal) ... is something that I leave to Him.

That would indicate you could create universe with living souls yourself while being in paradise but who would die for them if they sinned ?

They choose not to sin. Easy decision.

I see what you mean.

I guess what confuses me most about this is something I should have added to the OP - people will say there's sin in the world because we have free will, and free will is a gift. Since God loved us he wanted us to be free to choose, right? But God didn't just give us free will, he also decided which things we can choose.

If there were opportunity to sin in heaven, could we? If we couldn't, would we have free will?

I guess I need a crash course in hebraic block logic then. Never heard of it :)

In heaven, you mean? If you do it voluntarily that means you could choose to defy God too, doesn't it?

Like I could choose to unmarry my wife?
I've considered it.
But after being in the presence of God
evidently we won't make the same mistake again.
Maybe we will feel what it's like to sacrifice our
only son for others stupidity, and not be so
stupid again.

The will of a perfected human can unite to God's will because what a perfected( state of Glory) human will's is what God wills. In that state of being human, the human doesn't will this or that because it's good, this or that is good because it's willed.

First something basic: Does God have less free will than we do? Consider what Scripture says about the effects of sin.

As for the free will of people who have gone to heaven: sin and our fallen world has twisted our thinking significantly. People tend to have no concept of what it means to be able to choose right or wrong, but to never, ever choose wrong.

Scripture testifies that people can get to that point even in this life (through the transformation that God does). Will the free will of such people get reduced when they go to heaven?

Why doesn't someone reading Scripture the first time forever stop sinning as soon as he or she becomes aware of something they do is sinful? It is very, very difficult, and I would even say impossible for many people (until the Lord helps them). Consider all the pressures and pain that one encounters who chooses to stop sinning completely. Now consider what it would be like if all those pressures and pain were for trying to do something sinful. That is what heaven will be like for us, IMO.
