“There will be blood”: JPMorgan warns of 60% global recession odds under Trump Tariffs

As reported by Bloomberg, JPMorgan’s Chief Economist Bruce Kasman now sees a 60% chance of a global recession in 2025, up from 40%. “The effect of this tax hike is likely to be magnified—through retaliation, a slide in US business sentiment, and supply chain disruptions,” Kasman wrote in a note titled There Will Be Blood.

Goldman Sachs echoed the concerns, raising its recession probability from 20% to 35% in the next 12 months. The firm also slashed its 2025 GDP forecast to just 1% and projected a rise in the unemployment rate to 4.5%. “The increase in our recession probability reflects the sharp deterioration in household and business confidence in the outlook over the last month,” Goldman’s report stated.

Which is a clear demonstration that Trump is an ignorant fool on economics generally and international trade specifically. That you buy less of my stuff than I buy of yours doesn't mean you are ripping me off. What matters is a fair price and product. The same applies with countries.

Is India (the country in the example) selling inferior goods at high prices? Do they make false deals? Those are kinds of "ripping off". Selling more than they buy IS NOT.

What I find interesting is , the current administration's tariff policy focuses on ensuring free and fair access to foreign markets while granting foreign countries free and fair access to the American market.

This is the essence of free trade and globalization.

Yet, In the past 15 years, conservatives including President Trump have opposed free trade and globalization, similar to the stance of the liberal left and American labor unions over the last 50 years.

Read the fine print. Israel isn't much of a trading partner while Vietnam is providing relief on products they really don't import.
Read the whole article - Trump announces the tariff program -April 2 - on April 4 - countries start negotiating.

Sorry, what I mean is one would have to go and look at what they are reducing.
""From Mar 31, 2025, certain items such as cars, wood, ethanol, frozen chicken legs, pistachios, almonds, fresh apples, cherries, raisins, etc, will be subject to a new preferential import duty rate," a statement said late Monday (Mar 31) on the government's official news portal."
It added that import duties on some cars will be halved and the tax rate for liquefied natural gas will drop from 5 per cent to 2 per cent.
Tariffs on frozen chicken legs will be reduced from 20 per cent to 15 per cent, the rates on unshelled pistachios will be slashed from 15 per cent to 5 per cent, and for almonds, it will drop from 10 per cent to 5 per cent." HERE
What is not being said is Vietnam imports from the US is a little over 3% of their total imports. US cars are .84%. Wood is 2.5% of their total imports from the US. They are just not a real big importer of US products, and what they decided to reduce isn't much.

I like the insightful commentary and facts in this article.
It seems that The Western Journal is a far right propaganda outlet

Questionable Reasoning: Far Right, Failed Fact Checks, Propaganda, Conspiracy
Bias Rating: FAR RIGHT (8.0)
Factual Reporting: MIXED (6.3)
Country: USA
MBFC’s Country Freedom Rank: MOSTLY FREE
Media Type: Website
Traffic/Popularity: High Traffic
MBFC Credibility Rating: LOW CREDIBILITY

I was immediately suspicious in reading it because it goes along with the lie that these countries that Trump is putting tariffs on, the lie that they are already putting tariffs on USA.
Trump, the rest of his loyal administration, and his loyal partisan right wing media are saying that it is reciprocal taxes, saying that these countries are tariffing USA. But in actual fact the USA tariffs are based off a trade deficit rather than tariffs.
If USA want to sell more stuff in other countries, then make better stuff, make it for reasonable prices and maybe people might buy it. This bully approach of tariffs won't work, you will tank your own economy and destroy your credibility and reputation with your best and most friendly trading partners.

BTW, people that read media outlets like this aren't doing themselves any favours, they are making themselves look dumb by reading lies and becoming out of touch with reality. I suspect some people on this forum, are either paid by the Republican party or associates such as Musk, Bannon, Stone, or are perhaps working for the Russian government.

Yes, they are just regurgitating bad Trump et al claims.
And no, those Trump officials are not credible.
Trump's trade rep Peter Navarro claimed the other day with a straight face "tariffs are tax cuts." Credible? No.
Trump et al and as the article claims, Vietnam has 90% tariffs on US imports. Credible? No.

"The 2025 National Trade Estimate (NTE), released on March 31 by the Office of the US Trade Representative (USTR), reports that Vietnam’s average most-favored nation (MFN) applied tariff rate was 9.4 percent in 2023, including:
  • 17.1 percent for agricultural products; and
  • 8.1 percent for non-agricultural products.
The report also highlights that, although most US exports to Vietnam face tariffs of 15 percent or less, consumer-oriented food and agricultural products still encounter higher rates."

Who is Pete Navarro?

Rachel Maddow did a little digging.

Starts at 6:13.

And for people that don't believe Rachal Maddow.

Peter Navarro, the former economics professor currently serving the Assistant to the President and Director of Trade and Manufacturing Policy for the White House is one of President Donald Trump’s most strident defenders, particularly when it comes to the current trade war with China, which Navarro has zealously championed.

an Australian professor began studying Navarro’s past work and discovered that for decades he’s been publishing quotes from a man named “Ron Vara” — who is entirely fabricated. Ron Vara is an anagram of Navarro.

Report: Kushner found Trump advisor Navarro by browsing Amazon

Jared Kushner found a White House economic advisor by browsing Amazon, Vanity Fair reported Saturday.

Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, was asked by Trump to do research on China, and turned to Amazon, the report said.

There, he found a book co-written by Peter Navarro and was struck by its title, “Death by China.”

{mosads}Kushner then cold-called Navarro and invited him to be an adviser to the Trump campaign, according to the report. Navarro now directs the White House National Trade Council and serves as the Assistant to the President.

Wow.

Their top trade advisor was found by Jared "wonder boy" Kushner by browsing the internet finding a book on Amazon by Navarro where Navarro made up fake quote references in his book.

I mean you just can't make this clown show up. No wonder Kushner couldn't negotiate peace in the middle east.
He probably googled "how to solve....."

It's like having a bunch of 12-14 year olds running the country. Rushing through things, coming up with "brilliant" rushed ideas. Believing people that say things they like, and implementing stuff with disastrous effects.

These people have no idea on just fundamental stuff like trade deficits, tarrifs etc. They are finding crackpots with looney, unqualified ideas and just running with it. USA and the rest of the Western friendly world are under attack by lunacy and incompetence.

Putin must be laughing every morning when he wakes up and reads the news.

No, it seems you just simply believe what Trump tells you and what your far right propaganda "news" sources tell you. And then you make yourself busy spreading that stuff all over the internet.

I disagree with your assertions and with your conclusions.
As exampled:
BREAM: Investopedia says this, “If dealerships pass on the full cost to consumers, that would mean an additional $5,000 to $15,000 on imported cars. And because parts that are imported and end up U. S. cars, they could go up substantially some estimates by thousands of cars as well.” You heard [Lucas Tomlinson’s] reporting there where the president says he doesn’t care if the prices go up on U.S. cars, so what’s the message to the US consumer?
NAVARRO: The message is that tariffs are tax cuts, tariffs are jobs, tariffs for national security, tariffs are great for America, tariffs will make America great again.

Of course you do.
