  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't think there's anything wrong with relaxing. We were designed to need rest and quiet from time to time. I'll play games, read books, listen to music, that kind of thing.

Yes, some of our time should be used wisely, and put to use getting closer to God, but I don't think He minds if we veg from time to time. (I'd bet if Jesus we're to come into my house, He'd play Nintendo with me!) :)

What should a Christian do with their free time? Is it ok to sit down and relax watching a television show or playing a video game, or should we always be doing something like studying the bible?

God created us to live and to enjoy life. I believe it honors Him when we live in the liberty that Christ brings.

Even Jesus had to get away from the crowds and I believe that it's good for us to be well rounded people and to have hobbies.

Personally, I sail and fish competetively and play music. I also play hockey in a league made up of fire, emergency and law enforcement personel.

Even things that seem non-spiritual can be opportunities to serve God. Like the song says, "Once in awhile/you get shown the light/In the strangest/places if you look at it right".

My band isn't a Christian band, but I've been able to lead a couple of people to Christ because of it.

First, let's define free time: an human being, to be health, needs sometime to exercise, to relax, to eat properly and to sleep the needed number of hours. We often sacrifice those, we often were guilty to go to the movies intead of working, for instance; that's something we can't do: we need, to function tproperly, time for quality relaxation (for more on this subject, read the books of Domenico de Masi)

So, if we work, eat, exercise, relax, sleep and still have some time on our hands, as I see it, the real christian thing to do is to help the others; "when you are clothing the poor, you are doing it to Me".

This is a great question. I've never actually heard it asked directly like this before (good job!). I'd have to say that after work (since everything outside of one's job is technically "free time") there are many neutral and moral choices. Reading the Bible is definitely a priority but that is not 24/7; we are free in Christ after all. You can exercise (my friend rides his bicycle sometimes for 40 miles a day), prepare good food, listen to music, watch educational TV shows, make art (draw, paint, work with wood, etc.), volunteer somewhere, fellowship with friends, make music, keep a garden, read books/magazines/newspapers, just sit and think, and much more! You don't have to watch stupid TV shows or go clubing; there are so many other things. Be creative!
