What is the 'Free Reformed' Church? How does it differ from a regular Reformed Church?

I think they may be the old Netherlands Reformed Churches. The Reformed Church in America (RCA) is extremely liberal and is totally unrelated to this group The Free Reformed broke off from the Christian Reformed Church (CRC) in the 1950's. They thought the CRC was too worldly and there were differences on Article 17 of the Canons of Dordt.

Well, there may be a few denominations of this title, but the on I'm familiar with left the Reformed Churches in 1944. This was in the Netherlands, of course - but there are sister churches in Australias (the Free Reformed Churches) and Canada (the Canadian Reformed Churches).

The split was over doctrinal issues, and perceived heavy-handedness by the Reformed Churches' Synod. In Free Reformed Churches of Australia, at least, have become quite insular.

Oh, I'd forgotten about them. They are connected to another, separate, parent body int he Netherlands. They did split over the same issue, though - presumptive regeneration.

I've been doing a spot of research on this, and found a Reformed Timeline which gives an excellent summary of the various reformed denominations in North America.

No, "the Australias" include both Northern Australia (sometime erroneously referred to as "mainland Australia") and Southern Australia (often called "Van Diemans' Land" or "Tasmania")...

i thought that was the bit you guys liked - being separated from those victorians
well, it's good being separated from the queenslanders and south australians, they're the two states i dislike the most. bass strait's just a major hassle when we want to travel to NSW to visit all our rellies.
