Because the evidence points to everything in the universe having a cause. There is no evidence for anything outside of the universe having a cause, such as God. There is evidence of physics having a cause but no evidence of Spirit having a cause. We have to follow where the evidence leads.

Where is the evidence for the Spirit?

Since when are we to rationalize with the universe in the things of God?

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

See that word rudiments? I think of the Periodic Table when I see that word.

Most scientists reason themselves out of having to believe:

Matthew 21:25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him?

But then you accept that faith-based conclusions are not rational conclusions. Nothing wrong with that per se, but it is unfair to then use those conclusions and present them as an external truth. It is based on your experience, an experience which I do not share.

Nor do I think that such things as macroevolution impinge back on your faith.

No, that is not so, as we have no evidence that anything but the universe exists. Nor can we, if we assume that you are right, say for sure *which* god is responsible.

Reticence, AV? That's not like you.
I'll pass on telling you what my IQ is -- (or rather, used to be).

I've already got a stalker following me around convinced I do nothing but toot my own horn; and I don't need to feed any trolls.

I only have evidence of one God. Do you have evidence of more?

I think you underestimate the number of people who will get a laugh out of this post.

I think you mean that that is not what you believe. If you have evidence for anything existing outside the universe, I would love to hear about it?

I have evidence for one less God than you do :)

Please present this evidence.

I don't have evidence that there is no God, nor do I have evidence there is any God. There is, however, evidence abound, that the god describes int he bible certainly does not exist. Interesting that's the one you chose to put faith in.

They still demand evidence today -- don't they, Dove?

Matthew 27:40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

Luke 4:3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread.

Luke 4:9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on a pinnacle of the temple, and said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence:

Yeah, it is one of the main reasons I am not a believer. People who want to tell me about their faith always end up saying in one way or another that I have the believe first, and that it will make sense after. That never really worked for me.

Although evidence is not the only thing that could work. A desire to believe would work as well. It is faith, after all.

The only objection I have is that people then take that faith and make positive statements about our shared reality, because I don't think that can be justified. If science tells us that the world works in a certain way, then what does that have to do with faith? Why the need to reject it on the basis of your subjective interpretation of what you chose to believe is the word of God? Can the Bible not be your truth, and Science have a scientific truth?

What kind of evidence would you expect of a God who is Spirit?

An agnostic view of God is meaningless.

Hahaha touche, sir, touche :)

Maybe so, but you have not shared the evidence yet!

As for the peer-reviewed documents, they certainly enjoyed majority consensus among the scientific community once, but it seems that this has dropped off somewhat in recent times?
