RFID isn't the mark of the beast, but it isn't great either. It's too insecure. Also, the video implies that RFID can be tracked via satellite...which is patently wrong.

1. is being used as a tracking device in animals now and can be used for tracking humans. And humans have had it implanted already as well for this purpose.

Impossible. We don't have the technology to do that. A tracking device requires an antenna significantly larger than can be fitted in a tiny capsule.

The existing chip can't. It would be possible to create such a chip though.

3. The chip could be used as the sole monitary device for the planet. And banks are looking into its use.

Hardly feasible for the next twenty or thirty years. There are too many issues to solve before that becomes possible, such as standardization, new infrastructure, legal issues and cooperation between the different banks (who all currently employ their own, proprietary systems).

That can be done just as easily without an implanted chip. Since these chips can only be detected from very short ranges (a few metres, IIRC), they would be no more useful for the purpose of marking a particular group of people than a tattoo would be. And tattoos are cheaper and don't require special equipment to detect.

These are but a few of the facts but a basic synopsis of the video.

I am not terrified of it, it is just a piece of technology. I don't care if it fits some bronze age superstition, that is not a good reason to not use it.

I am more afraid of the people using it as a technology scare. We really don't need any more that are based on lies and superstitions. While I may be worried about how the technology would be used, I can't see it being used in the way you mention. Again, the Nazi's didn't need the chip to do their atrocities, and nor does any other group. Not having the chip doesn't stop them from happening.

They state that chip was created by Digital Angel to compete with God (53 Seconds into Video) Nothing about this on there site ( http://www.digitalangel.com/about.aspx ) so are they reading minds to know what others are thinking now ?

They state that many employers are requiring employees to "get chipped" (may denotes a large number) yet they only mention ONE company, and not even if it was Required (as stated) or voluntary.
One company is not Many. Another Lie in the video.

They state that you can get burned by being near a strong magnetic field. False according to the laws of electromagnetism.

His point is that it's interesting that they're giving all of this data given that he can't find it. It's good journalistic practice to disclose your sources for information; doing otherwise makes it look like you're making things up (as I suspect is the case here).

How do you know it is not yet trackable from satelite??

How do you know your links info is totally updated. I would think the governement would classify what it could do as long as possible.

When we mentioned a couple of weeks ago that a judge had determined that police had the right to plant GPS units on suspects' cars without their knowledge, one thing many of you asked was how they could do that. Wouldn't the suspect see an antenna somewhere? Well, here's one answer (though we don't think this specific bug has been used by law enforcement agencies yet). U.K.-based security and defense company QinetiQ has unveiled what they say is the world's smallest GPS tracking device. The unit, developed with Global Point Technologies, Durham University and the Centre of Excellence for Nanotechnology, Micro and Photonic Systems, does not require an external antenna, and is being marketed specifically as a theft-prevention device that can be "fitted to any moveable asset such as vehicles, containers, pallets or packages." At least it's not small enough to be implanted, unlike some RFID chips.

I decided to do some research. The VeriChip is manufactured by VeriChip Corp., which is somehow related to Digital Angel (given the fact that DA has a press release for VeriChip at http://www.digitalangel.com/press_details.aspx?F=20080226.htm ). So that checks out.

I am personally opposed to this specific implementation due to security concerns, but in favor of the general principle of an implantable chip.

I can't even watch it all due to how politically biased it is..that crap just sickens me. I want to be presented information that is as unbiased as possible, not some far left or right wing junk. I want the raw hard facts, not skewed information. Either way, I understand that its a microchip that can track who ever is wearing it. I'm torn on this issue. On the one had it can keep children, teenagers and adult safe if kidnapped, they run away, or are injured somewhere they can't get help. I also see the harm it can do if in the hands of the wrong people or if our government changes for the worse. I see it as beneficial and negative, and a ways to possibly impede on another's freedom. So again, I'm torn.

Verichip announce intention to replace Credit Cards in November 2003

A Florida company has announced plans to develop a service that would allow consumers to pay for merchandise using microchips implanted under their skin.

Applied Digital Solutions CEO Scott Silverman said he believes the company's VeriChip -- a subdermal microchip that uses radio frequency signals to broadcast an identification number to a scanner -- could someday replace credit cards. Under Silverman's plan, rather than swiping a bank card to make purchases, micro-chipped customers would scan themselves using special readers.

Although the biochip payment plan may strike some people as a bit X Files-ish, financial transactions using radio frequency identification, or RFID, are already commonplace in some areas.

ExxonMobil's Speedpass, for example, is a key-chain fob containing an RFID tag that is linked to the holder's credit card; users wave the fob in front of a scanner integrated into a gas pump, and their fuel purchase is charged to their credit card account within seconds. Recently more than 400 McDonald's restaurants in the greater Chicago area started using the Speedpass system to allow customers to more conveniently buy their burgers and fries.

Meanwhile, MasterCard is testing an RFID-enabled credit card called PayPass. Like the Speedpass, the revamped card uses RFID to access the user's financial information and obviates the need for signatures or interactions with store clerks. In an interview with USA Today last week, a senior MasterCard executive said the company is considering integrating its RFID technology into other items, such as pens or earrings.

"Ultimately, it could be embedded in anything -- someday, maybe even under the skin," the executive said.

Which is where the VeriChip folks come in. RFID-enabled pens or jewelry could be easily lost or stolen, but RFID-enabled humans are bit harder to tamper with.

"We are the only ones out there offering implantable ID technology," said Silverman, who announced the "VeriPay" service during a speech Friday at ID World 2003 in Paris. "We believe the market will evolve to use our product."

Although he acknowledged that a final product may be a few years away, Silverman invited banks and credit card companies to collaborate in developing commercial applications using VeriPay. In the near future, Silverman said, the chip could be used as an added antifraud device in financial transactions -- ATM users could enter their PIN and get scanned, for example.

Richard M. Smith, a privacy and security consultant, said one of the biggest hurdles facing the VeriPay system might be the squeamishness of potential users.

"VeriPay will offer some conveniences over RFID credit cards, but I think most people will be creeped out with the idea of putting little radio transmitters in their bodies," Smith said.

Meanwhile, Applied Digital has attracted scorn from some fundamentalist Christians, who believe that VeriChip is the fabled "mark of the beast" of biblical lore. According to the book of Revelation, Satan will someday force people to "receive a mark" in their hands or foreheads in order to buy or sell.

"This is a gigantic step toward the mark of the beast, " said Gary Wohlscheid, whose website, These Last Days Ministries, keeps tabs on what many Christians believe are the signs of a coming religious Armageddon. His site is one of dozens that link VeriChip to the apocalyptic prophecy.

Applied Digital officials say such concern is unfounded because people are chipped voluntarily.

The VeriPay service is one of several the company has launched to promote its product. Applied Digital has positioned its microchip as an anti-kidnapping device (VeriKid), emergency ID system (VeriMed) and as a way to control access to secure buildings (VeriGuard).
