i've decided to renew an acquaintance with a someone, but since i haven't spoken to him in depth or thought about him in over a year, i can't seem to remember his name. i admitted to him that i forgot his number, so it seemed both awkward and rude to then admit the name issues: "do i still have your number? um, no. i don't even remember your name"
i know of people who go without addressing their friends by their names, even forgetting their names sometimes, and it's worked for us during the past since pleasantries don't need it. but i promised to call.
if he doesn't answer, i'll have to ask for him, and even if he does, i'll have to confirm it's him, so either way, i'll need a name or it'll be awkward. imagine someone calling you and asking to speak to "that guy" or "whatshisface", saying that "she couldn't remember his name, but he asked her to call him" ... doesn't send the right message.
so i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions about what i should say or do.
(i just noticed that it'll be awkward at any rate so i might as well as have said something in the first place)
