• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I don't see any big deal with the name change. Rom.8 says nothing can seperate me from the love of God. So I'm still in love with Jesus, I can still non Christians that come here that Jesus loves them, and I can fellowship with Christians. So I don't see the change as a big deal.

As was said its Erwin's forum so he can do what he wants. If you want another type of forum then go create it.

The question should be if this is for the better or not. That question has been answered and it's no. Christians do not have a place to call their own.

The question should be now what are we going to do that have not left?

Actually tulc, I think that KarrieTex's opinion is shared by a LOT of the members (former members?) here. There used to be about 3000 "users online" at any given time. Now there's rarely over 2000. I don't know whether that's all right, or all wrong, but it appears that about 1000 members have "voted with their feet".

That may well be true, the thing is though any time there are changes there are going to be people who leave and people who stay. That's just a fact. I know I'm going to stick around and see what unfolds, maybe I'll spend a little more time in the newbies section (don't get there hardly anymore) and meet the new people I'll be hanging out with. :)

The problem I have with this is that this site used to be like a church and now it's a social club. Imagine going into First Christian Church one day and the next day it changes to First Social Club and doesn't do anything with Christian things... that's what this site has done.

This is not particularly true.

I really don't care about the name change. I care about the fact that what once was ChristianForums has become a place where derogatory people come to flame others, call names, and make fun of people of faith.

I've tended to find in the past that most of the derogatory language, flaming, name-calling, and making fun, has been done by Christians, principally some of those describing themselves as conservative and/or fundamentalist, and their targets have been both other Christians with whom they disagree, and non-Christians. Whilst I wouldn't welcome the pendulum swinging to the other extreme, I would consider the recent changes to be a good thing if they were to bring an end to this unpleasant practice.

The site has always (or at least as long as I've known it, which is...about three years, I think) been a place where Christians and non-Christians can meet online and have discussions and debate and share together. I don't really see the changes as making a significant difference to that.

CF was never about being a church. Church is the gathering of believers in the local context, and in the wider context the gathering of all believers. I really don't believe that a web forum can adequately take the place of the local church, and shouldn't be expected to.

David.
