For those who believe in tithing. (Not a debate.)

I have tithed for years from the gross. Generally not to churches, but to places like Compassion International, and Orphans Promise. (Please no debate on that either.)

Now I have gotten almost $6000 as the result of a Doge refund for times when I apparently was overcharged for SOCIAL SECURITY.

I am no way a math whiz. But it seems to me that this new refund is not something I have to tithe on. Because for years I paid the money that I was asked to pay, and the recent deposit is a result of where I was overcharged.

I would appreciate anyone giving me any rationale for why that might not be correct.

And please pray for me to make the right decision.

I would tend to agree with you. You've already tithed on this money

If you have tithed on the money, you have tithed on the money, you are however clearly free to go above your tithe.

FWIW, my local church is... well off. So my tithe is split between my home congregation, missions, Compassion International child sponsorship, and donations to a feeding program for children living in poverty in Manila. I donate above tithe amounts by a good margin. I try to have family, local, regional, and then global impact where I can...

You are right, of course. We can give beyond the tithe. And personally, I do that.

In fact, in the Bible, we are told to do alms giving, which, if anyone doesn’t know means giving to the poor.

In fact, we are told to give in other ways that are not included in the tithe. But no percentage is required on those kinds of giving, as with the tithe.

I have one last item for you before we move on. Being on staff requires a great amount of writing. So this is a short essay (2 paragraphs of 3-4 sentences should be fine), so please use your best writing style to answer.

How is the internet a form of Ministry to you? What do you hope to accomplish as a Mod?

put it in an interest bearing account and don't touch it. they will likely want it back in the next administration.
