How might you show a girl that you liked her but didn't want to make it to obvious?

Find something you have in common, or something she likes, and talk about it.
Girls LOVE chatting, and if you have a similar interest, you'll have common ground upon which to start a chat... a date... etc etc!

I guess I need to be a better listener during these chats...my problem is when I chat to someone I like, I tend to get distracted by her eyes and can't recall everything she just said...
There's an attractive girl at work, we're just friends..she is helping me to be a better listener..I'm up from about 50% instant recall to what she just said, to about 80%

I haven't the slightest idea on how to talk to a girl. I see a pretty girl and then I just freeze up and lose all train of thought, leaving me looking and sounding like a mumbling idiot. I do try and talk to them, but it's usually 2-3 word sentences.

Be a good listener, but contribute to the conversation. I found that it's not a good idea to just talk about dumb things and agree with her on everything she says.
BEST IDEA: Ask her what she's interested in, and spend most of your time on that. Even if you think it's the stupidest thing you've ever heard in your life and you're bored to death (I've been there), just act interested. Usually it just takes practce. If you're thinking about what to say next while the other person is talking then you're too nervous.
And if you're shy, insert that piece of information somewhere along the converstion. It makes things easier for her, and for you cause that's a hint that she should take control of the conversation.
If you ever have a moment of awkward silence, don't fret it until it becomes excessive.
Women are predators. Remember that young padawan. They can sense the slightest hint of fear. Try to calm down and tell yourself it's not that big a deal if you freeze up. If you freak, you'll end up KIA. You must be wary...

That's right. I am female. I was asking the question cause I wanted to know how a shy guy might act around a girl he likes.

How about becoming a friend to her and letting her know that you are a genuine person who might be a viable candidate for bigger and better things. At worst you might just develop a good friend in the process.
