We may deserve it, but I would rather not be crucified :D

Matt 23:34 "Because of this behold! I am commissioning toward ye Prophets and Wise-ones and Scribes.
Out of them ye shall be killing/apokteneite <615> (5692) and ye shall be crucifying.
And out of them ye shall be scourging in the Synagogues of ye and ye shall be persecuting/persuing from city into city"
[Matt 24:9]

My friend...we are crucified. We are His.
Romans 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Galatians 2:20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.

5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
The "serpents and vipers" spiritually scourge, persecute, and kill us on forums (city to city) as He sends us with His Word. He took the stripes but our carnal nature, our old man, is crucified with Him! We too lay down our lives for our brethren (or the five brothers :)) ....
John 15:13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.

1 John 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because He laid down His life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

I did a google search trying to find out how others view the "5 brothers" in Luke 16 and there wasn't much info.

I did find this interesting:

Rich man and Lazarus in Hades: Luke 16:19-31: Neo-Sadduceeian Knockout Punch!
Exposition of Luke 16:19-31

*snip*

The five brothers are the five brothers-in-law of Caiaphas, the Sadduceean High Priest. Josephus records, "Now the report goes, that this elder Ananus [Annas] proved a most fortunate man; for he had five sons, who had all performed the office of a high priest to God, and he had himself enjoyed that dignity a long time formerly, which had never happened to any other of our high priests. . ." Antiquities, Book 20, chapter 9, section i, p. 423. Elsewhere, Josephus gives the names of Annas' five sons as Eleasar, Jonathan, Theophilus, Matthias, and the younger Annas. Caiaphas was son-in-law of Annas who had been deposed by the Romans for openly resisting them.

Well, they could back then; and that's the point. Levi was separate from Judah. Christ was of Judah, not Levi, as both LLOJ and I have quoted, though he seems to disagree.

The reason is to establish the Melchizedek priesthood, not prolong the Levitical one, which is what would happen had the two or three tribes of Judah, Levi, and Benjamin not been kept separate.

LLOJ I doubt would argue for Sabbath keeping and diet regulations. But if the tribes were mixed, then this scripture no longer applies:

Hbr. 7:12 For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.

Levi and Judah weren't mingled. The priesthood changed from Levi to Melchizedek, else let's gather on Sabbath and change our diets for righteousness sake. Or agree they weren't mingled long ago.
Thank you.
Would you tend to agree with the commentary I quoted in the original OP?

Thank you Lulav

Here is another link [shown below], and this view is pretty much like mine concerning the the Jewish Rulers.
According to Paul and Acts, the Priesthood and Sadducees did not believe in a resurrection. These were also in the audience when Jesus spoke this parable.

Acts 5:17 Rising yet the Chief-Priest and all those together to-him--the being a sect/airesiV <139> of the Sadducees/saddoukaiwn <4523> they are filled of-jealousy/boiling

Acts 23:6 Knowing yet, the Paul, that the one part is of Sadducees, the yet different of Pharisees, he cried out in the sunhedrin "Men! brethren! I a Pharisee am, son of Pharisees concerning hope and resurrection of dead-ones I-am being judged!"

http://the-true-jw.oltenia.ro/lazarus.html

The five brothers of the rich man well picture the associates of the Jewish clergy who manifested the same spirit as the Pharisees.

These, refusing to believe in Jesus, showed thereby that they actually were not taking heed to what Moses and the Prophets had said. And that they would not believe even if one rose from the dead was borne out when Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha, did actually rise from the dead.—John 7:47, 48; 5:46, 47; 12:10, 11.

I like your translation, but I'm also wondering about "am having" for echo.

How about:

"for (I) have five brothers, so (he will) testify (to) them, (so) that (they will) not also come into this place of torment."

According to a concordance, this form of the word #931 is used only 3 times.
1 time outside of Luke 16 and that in Matt 4:24.

Luke 16:28 "For have five Brothers that he may be testifying to them, that no also they may be coming into the place, this, of the torment/basanou <931>".

http://www.olivetree.com/cgi-bin/EnglishBible.htm

KJV) Matthew 4:24 And his fame went throughout all Syria: and they brought unto him all sick people that were taken with divers diseases and torments/basanoiV <931>, and those which were possessed with devils, and those which were lunatick, and those that had the palsy; and he healed them.

Rotherham) Matthew 4:24 And forth went the report of him into all Syria; and they brought unto him all who were sick, with divers diseases and tortures/basanoiV <931>, distressed, demonized and lunatic and paralyzed,--and he cured them.

Young) Matthew 4:24 and his fame went forth to all Syria, and they brought to him all having ailments, pressed with manifold sicknesses and pains/basanoiV <931>, and demoniacs, and lunatics, and paralytics, and he healed them.

http://www.greeknewtestament.com/index.htm

Textus Rec.) Matthew 4:24 kai aphlqen h akoh autou eiV olhn thn surian kai proshnegkan autw pantaV touV kakwV econtaV poikilaiV nosoiV kai basanoiV sunecomenouV kai daimonizomenouV kai selhniazomenouV kai paralutikouV kai eqerapeusen autouV

Strong's Number G931 matches the Greek βάσανος (basanos), which occurs 3 times in 3 verses in the Greek concordance of the KJV

931. basanos bas'-an-os perhaps remotely from the same as 939 (through the notion of going to the bottom); a touch-stone, i.e. (by analogy) torture:--torment.

We're both quoting the same scriptures that Christ was of the tribe of Judah, not Levi, not Benjamin.

So, what do you mean "Levi was joined to the tribes of Judah and Benjamin"?

Melki (King) Tzedek (Righteousness) is called also a priest right? His name doesn't tell us that but his name says he is the King of Righteousness. So how is he a priest, and how is Jesus a priest of this order?

At the time of his appearance, there was no Levitical Priesthood was there? IN fact there was no Levi, nor his father yet, still in the body of Abraham. But Abraham we are told paid tithes to Melkitzedek, so Melkitzedek is representing that priesthood to come, yet he is called Righteous. The Aaronic priesthood was not righteous, but Jesus was.

We have in the gospel of Luke a very interesting story about John ben Zacharias that tells us that Zacharias was a Priest in the course of Abijah, which means 'G-d is my Father'. Now we are also told that he was married to a 'daughter of Aaron', which means she was not only a Levite, but of the special class called Kohenim, or the High Priestly line. We also are not told but in a round about way that Zacharias was also of the same line. We determine that by this verse here:

Luke 1:6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
So if she, Elisheva was of Aaron's line which means of the Levitical line, and her husband served in the temple at the least it means he was a Levite too. ( All Kohanim (Of Aaron's line are Levites, but not all Levites are Kohanim).

So Both were from the tribe of Levi and if Elisheva was a cousin of Mary that mean there was some Levitical blood in Mary as well.

Jesus had five brothers too. :)

---------------------------
To restrain evil may G-d add to Israel. Hear of this and Praise him for G-d has given Grace.
Would that be brothers born from Mary or stepbrothers? [there is poll thread on that at link below]

[YoungLT Mark 6:55 is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary, and his brethren James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?

Did Jesus have brothers and sisters born of Mary
