Headshot pictures are always a good way to go if you want to be noticed.

Of course, most girls might be a little more open to a smiling guy than a brooding "this is my Jcrew look" pose

Shirtless poses or obvious displays of physical attributes (this goes for girls too) just come across as weird and... vain desperation.

Holding an animal will serve a dual purpose. It will weed out the animal haters (like myself) and also guarantee a second look from those who love animals. Now maybe they might be admiring your pet but hey, you got them to take the first step.

I personally melt when I see a picture of a guy and a kid. So cute and approachable. Of course, if it isn't your kid you will want to include a disclaimer on the pictures itself with a title like "Me and my nephew".

Most important- MAKE SURE THE PICTURE IS RECENT. It is a ridiculous and a childish ploy to choose a photo taken 5 years ago just because you are trying to put your best foot forward and you liked how you look better then. Its a type of lie and that is no way to start a relationship.
