Not sure it was a promotion of another website. It was more an invitation to a discussion which I felt wasn't appropriate here, but nevertheless may have had a select audience among the regular participants.

But what will be will be. I'll find another way to promote subjects without promoting websites

The subject matter wasn't what was a violation, I don't think.  If you'd like to discuss something start a thread on the subject matter.  All you did was start a thread that said, "This should be good, go to this website."  Telling others about a website is fine.  Just do it in the Favorite Web Links forum, or, instruct users to PM you personally for the url of the website.  You can post a link in your thread as a reference but not as THE purpose of your post.  That makes it spamming.
