I don't know about footprints, but I do know that Birds recognize humans as not the kind of threat to them as say cats or other predators. Birds will flee from humans, but do not call out the kinds of warnings they otherwise would for other critters. I came across this tid bit when reading: "What the Robin Knows" by Jon Young.

Crows will even remember specific humans as either friend or foe.
(They're scary smart)
