Today, my husband and I are down with a flu bug.

The doctor recommended the BRAT diet
B - Bananas
R - Rice
A - Applesauce
T - Toasted Bread

So, I found something very soothing:

RICE PUDDING (with no milk or dairy)

1 cup of brown rice (rinsed well)
1 quart of water
1/3 cup raisins and/or cranberries (optional)
4 oz Apple sauce

Bring water, rice, and raisin mixture to a boil.
Turn down heat to LOW and continue to cook for 35 minutes

At 35 minutes, stir the rice and add 4 oz. of applesauce (TJ Organic Apple Sauce with Wild Berries). Stir thoroughly
Add more water if necessary.

Cook for an additional 10 minutes or until thoroughly cooked and can be easily chewed.
Check periodically and stir the mixture so that it does not burn on the bottom.

NOTES:
The rice pudding should not be dry, but very moist.
If the rice is still watery, drain off the excess rice water and drink it.
For severe abdominal flu, rice water is very soothing.

This rice pudding when cooled, can be placed in a blender with some water to make it more easy to digest.
Then heat it in the oven for at least 10 minutes at 325 degrees F. to bring it to temperature.

p.s. You can cook this rice pudding for an hour (or more) in the oven at 350 degrees.
Then you will not need to watch the pot.

However, the doctor said that we exhibited signs of dehydration, so she encourages us to eat and drink fasting foods (the BRAT diet).

My husband likes to go to bed and sweat it out, but then he gets very dehydrated with a severe headache.
Drinking fluids alleviates the pain and allows the body to cleanse and repair itself.

I was reading that cranberry juice and lemon water are very good for cleansing the body.

My doctor told me that a cup of organic apple juice with a teaspoon of organic apple cider vinegar is great for a liver cleanse.
She told me to drink at least a quart of apple juice spiked with cider vinegar at least one day a week. It really helps.
