What does the Bible tell us about food, exercise and our health. Gluttony is a sin, right? But so many of us -- me included -- struggle with our weight and don't care for us the way our doctors tell us we should. What does God tell us? What does His word on the subject mean to you in your life?

Food can be used as a healing process.

God did not make twinkies, Pepsi or even grains when He created the Earth. He gave us whole foods such as meat, veggies, fruits. Stick with the basics. Avoid carbs and lots of meat and fat.

Luke 4:23 says, "heal thyself!" You and I can heal our bodies with the food that was created to keep us strong and healthy.

I exercise a lot,may be 3 hrs a day,I am 6'3 tall,perfect body,with 8 pack abs,broad shoulders and good muscles.I used to pray a lot while I was working out,while I do my workouts I used to say praises to the lord.

I only have one rule while I was working out,god gave me a beautiful structure, body, why should I keep it unhealthy and strength less ?

with that motto,I worked out/work out to keep myself healthy, strong and full of strength,I am 23 ! I enjoy my workout schedule and I also love the way how god gives me the thinking ability while I workout, which exercise to do and sometimes,If I take over weight,he gives me a feeling like it is beyond my limits to lift,so drop off it !

And coming to food,
I come from a place where beef is not available very much. But previously I used to workout around 8 hrs a day, morning 4 and evening 4 hr with kickboxing,a very rough schedule.I was not getting enough protein with the chicken I am eating,I cried at lord to give me some beef and then the miracle has happened.A friend of mine called me and told me about this beautiful stake house which was opened just a month before at that time, and there when we went there, the food was so good, very nice steaks and those steakhouse guys have special foods for gym goers with more protein content.

I came back to my place, and kneeling down myself, with full of happiness I praised the lord even for granting my little wish !

So exercise and taking good food are very important. If you have any doubts on what to eat and what not,hit me a message or post your queries here !

1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's".

Romans 8:1-4
"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit".

Proverbs 23:19-21
"Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thine heart in the way. 20 Be not among winebibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh: 21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe a man with rags".

Philippians 4:5
"Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand".

Proverbs 23:2
"And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite."

Sirach
23:6: Let neither gluttony nor lust overcome me, and do not surrender me to a shameless soul.

Sirach 31:20:
Healthy sleep depends on moderate eating; he rises early, and feels fit. The distress of sleeplessness and of nausea and colic are with the glutton.

Sirach 37:30-31:
for overeating brings sickness, and gluttony leads to nausea. Many have died of gluttony, but he who is careful to avoid it prolongs his life.

Philippians 3:18-19:
For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their end is destruction, their god is the belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things.

The Bible tells us to feed the hungry and poor if anyone thirsts, give them water. God was talking about genuinely hungry people who have no food. The Bible also says things about fasting. We are to go without food at times to remind us that we do need God and he provides us with EVERYTHING.

We are to share the abundance we have with the people who do not even have anything to feed themselves. That is the problem today. I don't understand how there can be obese people and yet hundreds of kids don't even have anything for breakfast and scrounge whatever they can get, like potato crisps which isn't even food!

Another thing the bible says is man cannot live on bread ALONE but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. Jesus is the bread of life, when starving, think of what he had to go through. That puts everything into perspective.

Satan can and does poison people through their lust for food. It is so easy, that is why you get food addicts who say they crave sugar or coffee or whatever. Being around these people is a trial, it's like they can't live without their 'fix' and they will just go on and on about it all day until they get it.

Originally, God made humans vegetarian, before the Flood. He said he gave us every herb and fruit bearing seed, to be meat for us. Also, he gave the Jewish people dietary laws, for their health and also to set them apart from other people. I think there are good reasons he didn't want them to eat food like pork and shellfish. He also gave instructions on how to make bread, and to enjoy food in festivals like passover. Jesus also gave us the Lords supper.

God also warns us about bad wine and strong drink. I believe the wine that was orginally made was fermented but it wasn't alcoholic. This is what Jesus provided on the wedding feast when he turned water into wine. There is no reason to believe he made it alcoholic so people could get drunk, you do not need alcohol to have a good time.

Another thing is those fruits he gave us, bearing seed - he didn't intend for us to genetically modify animals and plants, and create pesticides just so we could make money selling food to people and slowly poison them with cancer, or preserve or store grain and apples in a barn with a huge surplus while people were going hungry NOW.

Eat real food, not 'food products'. If it's got more than 4 ingredients, don't bother. Be simple. What would happen if you are faced with hundreds of starving kids in africa. Are you gonna feed them sugar, chocolate and potato chips? Do that and they will die. People in Africa and other third world countries are busting a gut and working themselves to the bone, making not even enough money to feed THEMSELVES just so rich people in other countries can eat cake everyday. And they do! I can't believe that some people eat cake everyday and pretend it's healthy because they call it a muffin. And they don't even make it themselves.

Anyway. my rant.

Amen! Sadly edible, non-food items -- "junk food" -- are easier to prepare or have no need to prepare at all and are sometimes less expensive than real, healthy food. I have a former client, for example, who insisted on giving all of her children no-name soda pop at every meal because it cost less than milk. I also know of college students who do not know how to boil a pot of oatmeal and so they eat "granola bars" for breakfast.

Ephesians 5:18 says "...do not get drunk on wine..."
Getting drunk requires alcohol; no one gets drunk on grape juice unless they are a diabetic and sensitive sugar. First century Greek literature including the New Testament uses the word oinos for wine -- not the Greek word for juice -- which means Jesus created normal wine, which had alcohol in it.
