I find your arbitrary decision to cherry-pick Webster and tell us what's appropriate repugnant. The first time I read your post I only found it pugnant. then I re-read it, and found it re-pugnant.

I can not understand how Adam was to "fill the earth" if God put him in the Garden of Eden.

This command was given to Adam and Eve, instructing them to populate and manage the earth. Although they started in the Garden of Eden, the directive to “replenish the earth” implies that their descendants were to spread out and inhabit the entire world.
