A great/easy gift to make is a fleece blanket. You simply take two yards of fleece and cut 4 inch long, 1 inch wide strips all along the edge. Then tie a knot in each strip close to the blanket and your done. You can also make it two layers thick by simply tying the layers together. Oh yeah, don't freak out at the corners; you will be cutting about a 4x4 piece off when each side meets.
I have made these as Christmas, baby shower and just because gifts and everyone seems to love them.

Ohh, we have oodles of those, and we make them for absolutely everybody for Christmas! :D

For mine, though, I usually use 2.5 yards, and I make them double layered. You can use either square or overhand knots - overhands look cooler but squareknots are easier on your fingers. I have a twin-size bed, and I use mine as a comforter on it.

I'll try to get a couple pictures today. :)

I've been thinking about trying this project. I've seen quilts made from about 15x15 inch squares and knotted like you described above. Maybe I will do something like that for my daughter's room.

Thanks for the idea anyway:)

I made one similar to the one you spoke of for my 5th baby. When I attached each block I sued a one-inch seam allowance. And when I was finished, I cut the seam allowance into 1/4" strips. One side looked like a normal quilt, but the other side was all fringed. Everyone who's seen it really likes it. You might like to try that. Just be prepared for some sore hands after all that snipping.
