It only refers to the cultural beliefs of the ancient Israelites. Its no more physically real than the mythical Leviathan, the primeval ocean, the ladders to heavens for angels, the windows in the firmament for rain or the deep thoughts seating in one's kidneys.The bible doesn't state the earth is flat but it certainly indictes that it is.

Really? The only evidence I've heard for a flat earth has been biblical hermeneutics (so I assume the sharer is a christian). Also, about an hour south of my hometown is the "Flat Earth Society of Canada". It's in a very, very, VERY religious and VERY antiscience part of my province.To date I have never heard a Christian refer to a flat earth. But I may be isolated. It is hard to believe the earth is flat just from observation. We fly planes around it. We have ships circling the earth. There are satellites circling the earth. Our space program has spacecraft circling the earth as well as space stations. I do not know of any scripture passage the specifically says the earth is flat. But someone may educate me there.

The map I posted some time ago, provided by the Flat Earth Society, is an almost exact replica. And we're not talking about scale, we're talking proportion. The proportion of Australia, as you have discovered yourself, is out by a significant amount.
And the Gleeson map shows that you have to fly a very long way past L.A. to get to Santiago from Sydney. And you've discovered that that is simply not true. So if the earth is flat, there isn't a map that one could use.
Let's face it, it's difficult to produce a 2D map of a 3D globe that's accurate in all respects. If you had a ball on which the countries of the world were drawn, such as this...

...then it's not possible to flatten that ball out. But if the earth was flat then it would be ridiculously easy to produce a 2D map. Which is what The Flat Earth Society has done. It's their official, this-is-what-the-world-actually-looks-like map.
