Flat-Earth, Slander, and Christian Ethics

Christian Flat-Earthers commit the cardinal sin of hubris.

They break the Great commandment to “Love the Lord your God...with all your mind.”--Matthew 22:37

They break the ninth commandment. "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor"--Exodus 20

“Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”--Matthew 13:13

“Every fact is to be confirmed by the Testimony of two or three witnesses.”--2 Corinthians 13


They slander faithful witnesses by making them out to be liars.

February 1st, marks the anniversary since COLUMBIA Broke Up after Re-entry.

Columbia was our first shuttle. STS-1 in 1981, Twenty-eight missions in all.

After first seven flights it flew at least once a year, some years 2x, twice 3x, from 1989 -1999

Then 1 more flight in 2002 and the final launch in 2003.

That tragedy and the funerals left seven families and the nation grieving. But Christian Flat-Earthers try to turn this into an Alex Jones, Sandy Hook moment. Truly despicable. Truly sin. This disregard for Christian ethics calls for repentance.

Tens of Thousands of people have watched the launches of Columbia and of the other four shuttles. Thousands more have watched them land. Thousands have watched the launches of Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. The International Space Station (ISS) celebrated its 25th Anniversary. Over 200 people from more than a dozen countries have lived on the ISS.

Twenty-four men have made the journey to the Moon. The minds and hands of thousands of people made that possible. Twelve men have walked on the Moon, among them this faithful brother in Christ, Charlie Duke, a faithful witness.

I think that a much more holistic approach to anti-intellectual Christian theologies,
needs to be taken.

Anti-intellectual Christian groups began to "go off the tracks", intellectually,
in the European enlightenment (the 1780's, about). This is when modern
Geology, as a scientific discipline was emerging. And, evidence pointed to
a very old earth, which the young earth theologies did not like.

Note that bishop Usher produced a theoretical timeline of the Bible, that
the young earth theologies liked, and mainly adopted.

But, this was just the beginning of anti-intellectualism, in Protestant
Fundamentalism. Fundamentalists threw out all the emerging hard
sciences, and the active philosophical discussion about the nature of
consciousness and thinking, and what our shared reality is. Fundamentalists
increasingly rejected sound studies in biblical linguistics, and the emerging
world class standard of New Testament Greek (now called in shorthand,
BDAG). As Fundamentalists threw out all sorts of emerging disciplines, they
tried to create their own version of these disciplines, without the intellectual
rigor. A Fundamentalist literature that mocked the intellectual life, emerged.
And that literature, and its anti-intellectual slogans and mockery, exist
today.

The anti-intellectual approach to Bible study, became what we would know today
as the "literal" interpretation of Scripture. But this approach, often overlooked
the best biblical scholarship, that pointed out that the "literal" interpretation
of Scripture often abused the best standards of biblical scholarship, and
produced what the biblical authors did not mean, when they wrote.

With the emergence of Darwin's theory of evolution, Fundamentalists took
this as another sign that the hard sciences were totally perverted (even
though it is the Intelligent Design authors, using the hard sciences, that have
proven that Darwin's place of random mutation will not accomplish the
complex information that we see in biological life).

It is true that Protestant Fundamentalists have abused valid methods of
reasoning, and unreasonably rejected the methodology of the hard
sciences. But their error is rejecting the goodness of the intellect, not
a smaller matter of differing with one scientific assertion or another.

Anti-intellectual Christians are basically lying about one of the components of
our shared reality, which is valid reasoning methods. The result is an intellectual
disaster in their theology, and Bible study methods, and their interface with the
modern hard sciences, and with philosophy.

It is this much larger problem, that should be addressed. And it is this much larger
rejection of logic, that leads many Protestant Fundamentalists to not be able to
properly assess conspiracy theories, and reject them.

You cannot be serious. Your constant misrepresentation and misinterpretation of various people and sources is highly unethical. Stop it.

Earth is a closed system in the context of handling our trash. Its too expensive to throw it to space (that was the question he was responding to) and we cannot simply leave (not technically, but practically - you cannot move to Mars, if your neighborhood is full of trash).
