For example, why I can not see Sun at night?
My thread has turned into a debate between people who think (or know) the Earth is a sphere. That wasn't my intention when I originally posted.
I guess there is one thing left to do...
Unfollow it, toss it to the trash, and learn a lesson not to start posts on this topic.
I saw a flat earth map once, with the north pole as the 'middle.'Have you actually researched any FE models? Like... any?
I really don’t want to at this point. All this thread has turned into is a place to attack a group of people for what they believe in. I can’t tolerate the mockery further, especially from people daring to call themselves Christians.I saw a flat earth map once, with the north pole as the 'middle.'
As you are the FE advocate here, how about you explain the best FE model.
On a forum I used to visit, one flat earther proudly confessed to having had a decades long drug habit, and upon almost dying from an OD for like the 10th time, had a religious conversion and is now a biblical literalist conspiracy theorist. And his arguments were exactly the same as we are seeing here.Hard to give them IQ tests. So far, in conversations with multiple flat-earthers, I've noticed:
- ignorance of the facts
- inability to reason spatially (i.e. to imagine what one would see on a flat vs a round earth)
- mental illness (in some cases people have admitted that)
- and other things
I think there's a difference between aqueducts or balistae and Atlantean power crystals or pyramid transmission towers. You don't believe in ancient technology?
Does seem to be a big part of it - but all conspiracy 'theories', not just FE.The way it read, it sounded like the whole flat earth movement (at least those who may be sincere) is borne out of an inferiority complex.
You guys need to learn some humility.
Anytime you go on a site populated by people who know better than to believe a cockamamie idea like the earth is flat, that's the kind of experience you should expect. This has been a disgusting experience.
I don't agree that it necessarily reduces intellectual competence - it depends on the dosage (and the type) of pot.I'd be interested in seeing how many NASA engineers who manage to build launch vehicles that launch into orbit are able to do so while on drugs. Same for those who design satellites that are put into orbit to make our lives a whole lot easier. Rather difficult to be on drugs and be able to do those things. Much easier to be on drugs and come up with unproven theories about how the earth is flat.
If the Bible says it’s flat, it’s flat. I just need to discern if the Bible really does say such things, to be certain. (No, don’t argue and tell me it doesn’t). There is a very good case for it doing so.
That's a very good question, and one that exposed the nonsense of "Flat Earth" very quickly.Have you actually researched any FE models? Like... any?
Maybe but likely this is a reference to North, South, East, West. The Bible also talks about the four corners of the earth - does that mean it's square, or oblong?
What's your reason or reasons for believing the world is a sphere?
So… Why do you believe the world is a globe, orbiting the Sun? Can your reasons have other explanations than what you currently accept?
Yeah. When there are two competing theories to explain a wide variety of observations, and under one theory all those observations follow clearly, simply, and with mathematical precision, and under the other require a morass of special pleading, including an inexplicable conspiracy involving hundreds of thousands of people allThere were recent reports (right after Christmas) about 2 athletes completing a crossing of Antarctica (across the South Pole). These reports were complete with pictures, television interviews, etc.
One of the things that saddens me about many flat Earth proponents ... is that they find it necessary to declare all manner of astronauts, scientists, astronomers, geodisists, pilots, explorers, etc. ... "liars" ... simply because their work supports the spherical Earth model.
Zealous flat Earthers won't hesitate to label those who don't convert to their cause as ... unwitting and lazy pawns for supporting the globe Earth deception.
In the context of the OP I took that to mean fanciful conspiracy nonsense i.e. "advanced" technologies that are not currently understood to have existed in "ancient times". Obviously I believe that ancient people had rudimentary technologies.
Are FEs right? You don’t think so? Okay. That’s okay. I wrestle with the idea myself. However, for me it’s a Biblical matter at the moment.
If the Bible says it’s flat, it’s flat. I just need to discern if the Bible really does say such things, to be certain. (No, don’t argue and tell me it doesn’t).
So? Wrong or right, misguided or not, lost in group think or not, the way many here have referred to FEs is just mean spirited. They AREN’T stupid. They are people and they DO have good reasons to believe (or disbelieve) what they do. Agree? Don’t agree? Relax and remember people aren’t their ideas, they are people.
