but the flat earth model above distorts Australia so badly as to make the distance look about double

If you put all the surveyed distances between cities together, that alone would pretty much define the globe.

Well, excuse me, that's not YOUR fake sun. That's the fake sun we Australians built (with help from New Zealand and South Africa) because the European sun wasn't giving us enough sunshine.

Where do you think all that wonderful sunlight in Australia comes from? ;)

''Dangit Jimmy, ya got our sun all tangled up with that Australian sun. Well no we can't have both on at the same time, people will start to get suspicious."

If the debate ended 2500 years ago, then why are we still talking about it?

I wouldn't describe this thread as a "debate," exactly, in spite of the thread title

If the debate ended 2500 years ago, then why are we still talking about it? Boom Flat Earth Explained ™.

The fact that the earth has been scientifically proven to be a globe and yet more people are back to thinking the earth is flat is an indication that there is indeed no "evolution" happening with the human race. In fact, we might even be going backwards.

Even if the sun stays up 24 hours a day in the Antarctic circle in isolated spots it doesn't prove a globe because this would have ended all the debates before they started. Do you think you've discovered the one thing that proves the globe and destroys flat earth? Prove that it does.

No amount of proof will end a debate with flat earth people who are too self righteous and wise in their own eyes to accept it.

You guys should actually watch this video - the flat earthers have a song!

So it got me thinking - those of us who support the globe need a theme song too. I was initially going for the beautiful simplicity of Daft Punk's "Around the World" but now I'm kind of leaning towards the wonderful retro space clip feel of Pump Up the Volume by MARRS (plenty of globe proof there).

Open for suggestions guys

There does seem to be a serious inability to reason logically, yes. The reasons for that are still unclear to me.

We are. :( In the Middle Ages, they understood these issues better than some people today.

Well, they didn't have the distraction of misleading u-tube videos.

I've never been to South Africa, but have family who've done it. Must be amazing cruising over the ocean for so long. Did you get to see any ice?

Absolutely. Not quite down to Antarctica itself, but lots and lots of Antarctic sea ice.
