Fixative?..

hi, today I went to look at my sketches and well, they seem to be ruining or ruined. Because I have them in a book and they are smeared and everything, I guess I needed some sort of fixative, but since I did not have any it is to late. This so depressing nothing seems to go right me lol... I do not really feel like drawing anymore oh well..

well if it helps you feel any better I do animation on the computer and had 22 renders saved, and I had to reformat and lost all of them. And Im still animating

I am sorry to hear that, there was no way to copy them off before the reformat? It is just that I have had a lot of other things happening to me that has made me soooooooo depressed, but I rather not talk about them in this thread...

a cheap fixative is hairspray, just spray a layer or two over your sketching when your finished and it will stay smudge free for life.

I've done animations and lots of drawings and paintings and I'v ehad both of these problems happen to me. I know the animation thing can be a huge frustration cause it's sooo much work to re-shoot all the images again. I had this one painting up onmy wall in my dorm room and my roomate and his buddy came in one night and somehow accidentally got bleach all over the painting. I got mad at them for the first time ever but I was more angry about them trying to get me to smoke and drink all year so that's mostly what I talked to them abotu in mor depth than I ever had before. I also did this really awesome hot air balloon painting on foam board in acrylic paints and the whole thing just bgent in two when the paint dried. It made a huge crease down the middle. Ahhhh. the horros of being an artist. LOL
Sorry to hear about your drawing, I really hope you can draw another one and have it turn out even better than the first ones. There are different kinds of fixatives you can buy for pastel, pencil, etc. some are mat finish and others are glossy, some are long term and others are just for using in between coats of pastels and stuff. Good luck in the future.jlerollin is right about the hairspray. It works pretty good.

You can buy a good fixative at an art store, but in a pinch, hairspray will do.

hey...so you don't have to go out and get a fixative, use hair spray...in my personal oppinon it works better than fixative...to fix those drawings that are ruining...you can always try and re-draw them (i know, it's not the same) and then spray them a coat or two of hair spray! God bless!

If your using a fixative use hair spray, works just as well and you get waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy more for your money.
