I dont think there is social awkwardness at all for divorced people, heck if there was you couldnt assemble more than 3 people in a conversation at any Christian function....someone IS divorced, always.
Yes its insecurity.....you have to figure that out and address it

When you're in the state as 5kidmom, oh yes it's awkward. The awkwardness does stem both from massive insecurity (when the person you trust most up and leaves, that's going to put a dent in your ability to feel secure) combined with the strong pro-family emphasis in most churches. Someone going through divorce is both painfully aware that everyone SEEMS to be paired off except them, and you feel like you're wearing a scarlet letter D on your head to boot.

It takes quite a while to work through that awkwardness and insecurity, and don't assume just because they don't look like they feel awkward that they're totally worked through it. It's been about three years for me and I can talk openly about it, but I still wonder at times "are they looking down on me?"
