first time shading

I’m trying to work on doing backgrounds and shading so I drew something I normally wouldn’t draw. I know there’s a bunch of shadows in the wrong places but this was the first time I actually tried shading.

The picture is supposed to be a wall made of addictions - a phone, video games, drugs, a cigar, alcohol, candy - and God’s hand reaching to help the girl over the wall.

Not Bad, i would suggest to think in terms of value instead of shading.
Practice making a value scale.

Your shading looks like living waters washing over like a wave. Jesus Christ of Nazareth is living waters.
