  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hebrews 6:1-3 lists 6 elementary principles.
The first one is Repentance from dead works.
A dead work is a work done thinking this will gain you favor with God.
1 Corinthians 13:3 And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

If we don't do works through love, they are dead.
Faith is the only thing that pleases God. Hebrews 11:6

I think the Lord also appreciates obedience.

You totally misrepresented what Hebrews was saying about dead work. The dead work in this passage of Hebrews is talking about Sinful acts, not good works.

Mat. 25:35-36

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

In six ways every commandment is actively purified. Add to that the avoidance of the opposing sin and you have the seven fold purification of the divine silver:

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Ps. 12:6

I gave a verse to show how works done without love are dead.
No works you do can ever please God. Faith works by love. Faith works. Faith pleases God.

Remember, Hebrews was written to people who thought they could be justified by keeping the law.
The writer of Hebrews wants to disillusion them of this fantasy.

Those people who think that there works somehow please God are offended by the cross.
Because Jesus paid it all, we cannot add anything to it. Not for salvation or sanctification.

Hebrews 6 (NASB comments)
1 Therefore leaving the elementary teaching about the Christ, let us press on to maturity, NOT laying again a foundation
1 of repentance from dead works and
2 of faith toward God, 2
3 of instruction about washings and
4 of laying on of hands, and
5 of the resurrection of the dead and
6 of eternal judgment.

1. Man's works cannot save;
2. Anything that is not of spirit-led FAITH is sin
3-4 useless unspiritual Levitical laws
5 SEE: Acts 23:8
6 of all eternal spirits by God
