I was sent this link by a friend, who was sent it by the man himself :) This is wonderful news - the Greeks and Arabs have the firm base here, but ROCOR seems to be doing the interesting and innovative things.

Hooray for the Church working with Aboriginal people - that's wonderful.

In the Old Testament, the name Seraphim is used to refer to the highest ranking angel.Gunning man Seraphim Slade was baptised a Christian. Upon leaving the Navy as a young man, Mr Slade decided he was looking for spirituality in his life.
He spent a year researching the world religions and finally decided upon joining the Russian Orthodox Church. Mr Slade has been a member of the Church for 23 years and on Monday July 7 he was ordained a Deacon – the first Indigenous Deacon in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church.

There are some :) I'm one of them. Most of us are the descendants of people from Greece, Russia, the Middle East or Serbia, (and smaller groups such as Romanians and Ukrainians) but there are converts like me too - my family came here a very long time ago, and I have ancestors from Germany, Cornwall, Sweden, Scotland, England...

In Melbourne, in some areas every time you turn around there's another Orthodox Church :) Some of them are BEAUTIFUL!

ooooh, that's very interesting! :)
I thought you had ancestors from Greece or Serbia too ;)

Are your parents also Orthodox or you converted only?

P.S. I am from Georgia (country) - former Soviet, close to Russia...

Hehe, no, my ancestors are not from an Orthodox country, sadly.

I converted on my own, my parents are protestants still.

And no, I don't live in Melbourne, I live in Adelaide which is much smaller but very nice. The Orthodox parishes are mostly Greek with the Serbs coming second, and a few other nationalities here and there :)

I heard, from an Aussie, that in Australia there are no...ghettos and everything is beautiful and expensive. At least in Melbourne.

That's pretty true. There's lower class areas, but not ghettos - the people shooting the matrix had trouble trying to find appropriate places to set things.

That doesn't mean there isn't bad stuff, but we don't have the inner city ghetto type things.

And beautiful and expensive - oh yeah, that's Melbourne!

Oh so, it's true! Wow I didn't know the matrix was shot in Australia. Wow! I'd visit if there weren't so many thing there that could kill ya. I know a guy who says, "Ohh...see that lil' rock right there! DON'T TOUCH IT! It's poisonous; it'll kill ya!" as his take on Australia.

very interesting :)
when did you convert?

Holy Saturday last year :) 2008

Long story as to why though, just like most of the people on this forum who are converts.

LOL! Yeah there are lots of poisonous things. The upside is, unless you're in the outback (and being stupid), you're not likely to come across them anywhere you'd visit. The drier it gets the more likely there are poisonous things, but you just avoid snakes and spiders and spikey things *shrug* We have a pretty high population and a pretty low death rate from the fauna! Where I live is "bush" country with lots of native fauna type stuff including poisonous spiders and snakes, and I survived a childhood let run free on an overgrown 3/4 acre block. Our cat when I was little used to catch brown snakes (very very bad snakes) and bring them dead to the back door :p Mostly you just have to be sensible.
