Hello GreggHearld.....
Just have to ask a few questions, so I know where you are at with your relationship.

Do you know that you have sinned against a Holy God?

Have you asked God to forgive you of your sin?

Do you know that Jesus died for your sin, when he hung on the cross that day?

Have you turned from your sin?

I encourage continue in daily bible study and being a doer of His teachings, especially from New Testament and Jesus. just be diligent and persevere, don't give up, and it will in time get easier to be very close to God. the more away from sin, the closer to God, from my experience
TexasGirl06 hit upon a crucial factor when she asked, "Have you turned from your sin?" Don't try to improve upon a formula that has worked right down through the entire Christian Church era..."Repentance toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ". The old Holiness evangelist W. B. Godby once said that repentance is something like the porch on the front of a house that is used to access the front door that is used in turn to access the interior of that house. Being in the house is here likened unto being a true Child of God with heaven in your heart, gloryland in prospect and the wind of God's blessings at your back, while the front door of the house is likened to saving faith in order to access that house, or, the true Church. Being on the front porch does actually get you into front door, but it makes it possible. That front door is repentance, a grace which must preceed the following grace of pardoning and justifying grace. There is some human faith in this qualifying repentance, but true saving faith of union with and in Christ is a faith that is the gift of God, and He will bestow it upon the good investment of a person who has already demonstrated a certain degree of sincerity. You can afford to toss out any and all sins, but you cannot afford to miss out on an opportunity the glory and satisfaction of which is not even humanly expressible. Once you are safe in that household of the family of God, your previous way of existence will appear an insignificant, dim speck compared to this limitless, boundless and eternal world of glory just waiting to be explored.

We don't 'find' our way back to God, the way is illumed by His Holy Spirit!

The Holy Spirit points to Jesus as the way, always :)

Feelings are not always reliable as faith believes for the good to happen, and the believer walks by faith. Fear expects the worse to happen, and God wants us to rest in His work done at the cross so that we can continue to grow up and move past the milk of salvation and on to the good works He has prepared for us to do in His will. For that to happen,we do have to repent of all known sin and try to turn away from it with our best efforts - one day at a time. This does not mean we will be without sin or be perfect, but it does mean we have to count the cost and be willing to enter the fight against our own sin nature with the new nature God gives the "born again" believer. Have you asked God to be born again spritually? If not, ask and receive from God, but don't expect Him knocking on the door of anything other than your heart and mind through life. God speaks to all people with life whether they listen to Him or not. The Bible says we will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit - the washing, regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Spirit (Titus 3:5). God gives us other gifts as well as we grow in His grace, unmerited favor, but they come with growth and by God's will - not always ours.
So, pick up the cross and follow after Christ by denying yourself every day of the sins and unbelief that besets all mankind and fight the good fight of faith. Come to understand that you do have power over sin by the blood of the lamb Jesus, who cleanes us from all unrighteousness if we ask of Him,and then keep your testimony that you will not give in or lay down in sin defeated. God understands how hard this battle is between the spirit and the flesh and gives us the grace to be victorious by having faith.
Ask and receive. Goback and repeat those first steps if you have to, but be ready to move by not only listening to His words, but by doing them. Sometimes, getting out and joining a charitable organization that does good works for the poor will break the yolk, sorta speak, and give a person more confidence in what they believe. Doing is more concrete than talking - especially when it comes to love.
Go for it and never give up - NEVER! His love and grace is the greatest thing to grow up in, and I cannot tell you how much blessing comes to those that obey Him or how much we miss by not listening and obeying.

John 6:29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."

I JOHN 3:16-19 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us.

Hebrews 10:35 So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!

Galatians 5:17 The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.

1Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have confessed so well before many witnesses.

Hebrews 11:6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.

John 3:5-7 Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life. So don’t be surprised when I say, ‘You must be born again.’

Luke 9:23-25 And He was saying to them all, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. "For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. "For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?

Let your fingers to the walking....Just open a phone book, and go to church. Being a little selfish, I suggest an Orthodox Church if at all possible...2,000 years of Christianity just can't be wrong! ;)

On a slightly more serious note, pray (just talk), fast, and get in touch with a Priest to talk this stuff out. We're there to help, most of us have a lot of experience with this, and it's really most effective in person...especially when you are still trying to figure out the root cause of this stuff. It confidential, and will do your soul some good.

The worse thing you can do is just sit there, expect God to work around what you want, and beat yourself up. If the other churches didn't work for you, then keep trying to find a church...don't give up...it very well could be that God is trying to teach you something important while searching for a Church.

Take care and God bless you! :crosseo:

Hey Gregg....
Ahh....He was born to die !
That is why He came !
In the Old Testament...God instructed the people to sacrifice an animal for their sin. Something had to die, in order for the sin to be forgiven.
All the while....God is preparing the stage...for the Ultimate Sacrificial Lamb to come !
He is sending Jesus.
So..... yes, Jesus was without sin.
Gregg....Jesus died on the cross for you.
He did it for me.
Yes...is is approprate to grieve that fact.

All it takes is to sin one little time....to be a sinner.
Stealing one little candy at the store... SINNER !
Though shall not steal.

The punishment for sin is death.
Jesus took the punishment.

We all have sinned.
Some of us have bad sin.
Some of us have really, really bad sin.
Doesn't matter.
Sin is sin....and Jesus died for it.

And.... He knows all about your yucky sin.
He still would like to visit with you about it.
He would like you to take it to him....and tell him that you are sorry.

Gregg...I still sin, even though I am forgiven.
I sin every day.
I sin less....than I did before I was saved.

Although saved, I still live in my flesh.
It's a battle.

Only when I get to heaven.... will I sin no more.

Don't beat yourself up over your sin.
Yes, it is bad.
Bring it to God.
He wants to wash you clean of all your guilt.

Yeah.... the guilt was laid upon Him at the cross.
That's how much He loves you.

And....He has an awesome plan for your life.
This I know is true.

Be blessed !!

To be perfectly honest, they ALL are.. Sin is sin!
GreggHearld said:

And the purity of the Christs blood is the ONLY means of forgiveness and sanctification we have! It's the provision He made, for you!

THREE holes!

Let's see now..

ONE for God the Father!
ONE for God the Son!
ONE for God the Holy Spirit!

[forgive me, I did not intend to belittle your hole issue.. But REALLY, whatever the sin, or rather, whatever you may be percieving as sin is totally covered by the blood of Jesus ALREADY! We NEED to come to Him to have His Life, for ours in insufficient for this fallen world!]

He can, and is willing to fill every hole with his Love!

2 Corinthians 5:14-15
For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.

John 10:10b
I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

Although saved, I still live in my flesh.

Romans 8:9
But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

As a Christian you can still chose to walk after the flesh, but you are NEVER to be found in the flesh again!

You are in Jesus dear sister!
It's in Him we live, and move and have our being!

Praise God!

For EVER & EVER!
Amen!

Dear GreggHearld, you had some good replies, and you told us that you really tried, you went to church and you repented. Keep telling Jesus how much you are trying to find the path back to God, and you would like to follow Him. Jesus will know now, start being loving and kind to all you meet, make friends with other young Christians, imagine Jesus walking beside you, and before long, He really will, GreggHearld, you will notice the difference it makes to your days and nights. Thousands of Christian men and = women, have gone the same path, myself included. I say this humbly and with assurance, Gregg, and send greetings. Emmy, your sister in Christ.

sweet emmy, hello!
greggherald, one reality you are living with right now is the fact that the Spirit will simply not allow you to leave this alone. you are continuously being pushed to seek, and that kernel never goes away. it may even haunt you, i suspect, as it does me at times. people of faith, contrary to popular belief, don't suddenly walk through some door and all doubt and unbelief is conquered. it is a tidal reality, washing over you and then receding for a time, before it comes crashing over you and invigorating you again. to me, this is what it means to have a personal relationship with God. look at Psalms. many of them are rantings against what it seems God is doing in the life of the psalmist. many Psalms are poems pleading God to bring judgment against the psalmist's perceived enemies, clearly contrary to what Christ will teach about treating our enemies with love. it will never be smooth sailing unless you stop really interacting in a challenging way with God. but what never stops is the nagging feeling that there is something out there, something real, that you are not yet a part of, and that is what keeps me pursuing a genuine experience of God in my life. doctrine and scripture are not the final word. they are lamps on the path of enlightenment. the Spirit is what you seek, the experience of God in you life. concentrate on that, rather than the proving or disproving of verses or doctrinal proclamations. don't seek Him "out there", but rather inside you, where He longs to be and continues to knock in your life. He hasn't given up, and neither have you.
obviously, i would suggest another path for you other than the orthodox church. it is highly doctrinal and tradition based, and you need something that is more direct and personal.
a hint: the whole thing starts with an irrational understanding of love.
peace

Gregg--

If you want to get back to God, I would kneel down or sit down (whatever you are comfortable doing) and ask Jesus into your heart. Tell Him you are sorry for your sins and want a fresh start with Him. After you do this, ask Him to put the Holy Spirit into your heart. One needs the Holy Spirit to live a christian life. Its the power of God to live a christian life.

Next, I would read the Bible daily especially the New Testament at first, pray daily and get into fellowship with other sincere christians. Christians who really walk the walk not just talk and talk. Find a bible believing church that proves itself because of its fruits. Jesus said to be a fruit inspector.

Its a daily life long process and a slow life style change to become more like Christ. In fact we die daily to our old sinful nature and take on His divine nature with the help of the Holy Spirit. Your life on earth is the "dressing room" to prepare for an eternity in heaven with God.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Since it is God that you desire to draw closer to, then it should be God you are asking "how do I get closer to you?" Listen to God. God will through a personal bible study with concordance lead and guide you into your own personal relationship with him.

He will lead you to people who will say key things that strike a cord in your heart as this is the message you need to hear. He will then build upon that thought until you have fully developed and better understanding of it. He will take you baby step by babystep through the process. DO not worry about stumbling, just get up and keep doing what is right until it becomes natural for you. Keep praying for strength, understanding, discernment and wisdom every step of the way.

Seek and you shall find. Ask and it shall be given to you. With each you will find yourself more and more closer to the God you are seeking. Your prayers will be answered.

There is a very important aspect of the relationship that I must stress. Whatever the Lord has revealed to you, obey even if it mean leaving the comfort zone and entering into that biblical world that few follow. IF the prophets and believers of the bible believed it and followed it, it good enough for you today.

God does not change. Man changes his image of God. God said that is wrong. Let God show you who He is and just trust and obey for He is trying to change you into His image.

what has helped me throughout my struggles in my faith, meaning like "finding my way back to God through Christ" is to love God with all your heart, soul and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself.

the big concern for me was how supposedly "orthodox" or right i was believeing but yet it wasn't producing "orthopraxy", or good works and fruit. it's a process to say the least, but no matter what, i am at peace that i'm finally on the right path back to God now for myself.

since Christ said, "my yoke is light" this has seemed to make that quote actually something believable and to have faith in and trust in.
