  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So, my wife and I are going through tight times financially. We aren't nearly as bad off as many people, but have cut back pretty much all we can and still have electricity (;)) to try to save money. We've also been selling stuff on Ebay to help make ends meet.

With Christmas coming, we were really at a loss for what we were going to do to give our son a good Christmas. Most of the stuff we had left that could be sold on Ebay had been listed a couple of times and hadn't sold. We got out a few things that we had avoided selling in the past, but now realized that they were just physical possessions and truthfully weren't that important and listed those along with most of the items that hadn't sold in the past. I prayed that God would help us on this as I really didn't know any way else to raise funds.

So far, only a handful of the items haven't sold and those that have have been going for higher bids than I ever anticipated, including most of what we had listed in the past and had had no luck trying to sell. I don't feel there is any other explanation other than God answering our prayer on this. We'll now be able to give our son a good Christmas, get some gifts for close family and friends, and give money to the Church.

Also, a side product of ridding ourselves of some of these things, is that we are able to more clearly see what is important in our lives and are discovering that, even though there were things we were hesitant to let go, we are the better for doing so.

So, I guess this is actually a double praise report!:clap:

amen! what a beautiful testimony to God's infinte goodness! and you are so very right. i just about lost everything, at one point, and you know what? it made me realize the same thing as you--it's just stuff. you can always get more stuff, but for what? just to sit around? i've freed myself from most of my 'stuff.' and i feel great about it :). there are just some things in life that are more important, like people and the Lord.

your post also brought to mind a radio broadcast i heard by brother Charles Stanley some years ago. i cannot remember the exact circumstances of why he decided to sell his highly-loved, several hundred dollar camera (i believe it was) but anyway, for some reason he was selling it and he didn't want to (out of desire to keep it for himself) but the Lord kept impressing on him to sell it. i think actually he had to donate it to the church sale or something ..lol. sorry, i'm old. anyway, he finally let go of his prized possession and a little while later, a few months or so, he received another one, free of charge. i can't remember the whole story, but it came to mind with your post. so sweet to trust in the Lord. He always has something good in store for those who love and obey Him. :). i pray you and your family will have a blessed Christmas.

Thanks for the response and the story. It is amazing how you can see God working in your lives and the lives of others when you really start looking.

And your right about getting more stuff. After all of this, I've had some family and such ask what I'd like for Christmas, and I really can't come up with more than just 3 or 4 things when in the past I could have easily rattled off a list. It just no longer seems important to have "things." Obviously that doesn't mean there aren't some things you might like to have, like a book or dress or something sometimes, but I just find myself looking at these things in a different light and really seeing how unimportant most of them are.

God Bless and may you and your family also have a blessed Christmas!
