Hi everyone
So I have been a faithful giver for years now (tithe, sponsorship, random giving) but things are different now. My wife and I currently do not live in our own home (we don’t make a lot of money). My thought is to stop giving to help out with us being able to afford our own place. I feel kind of bad about it but what else am I supposed to do ya know? Any suggestions or thoughts?
So two answers...... FYI... this is my position on life, and how I live. Others will disagree with me, and that is fine.
So you lumped together 'tithe' and 'sponsorship, random giving' and such.
To me, the tithe is extremely different from charitable giving and sponsorship and such.
Malachi 3:8-18
"Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings."
Now to me, I've been robbed before. I've come home, to find my house ransacked, and stuff missing, and stuff that wasn't missing, damaged and destroyed.
So the idea that I would ever be a thief, and a robber, because I did not tithe to the Lord, is absolutely
Abhorrent to me.
Therefore, I would tithe. Always tithe. How much do you tithe? I do not really care how much you tithe, but I think you should ALWAYS tithe. Every single pay check, you should be cutting some out and giving it to the Lord G-d in Heaven.
Now once you have tithed, then you have the charitable giving, the sponsorships, and random giving.
So what does the Bible say about that?
1 Timothy 5:8
Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and
especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
So my view of giving and charity beyond your tithe to the church.... you should only do this, after you have taken care of your own household.
I would think, having your own home, would be an important aspect of 'your own household'.... and therefore I would work on that, before you go off donating to charity and such.
That's my advice, and that's what I would do.
