@Sam91 sighed a deep sigh, the deep sigh of a clever but impatient lady whose cunning plan to speedily obtain a sphinx for her museum of taxidermy had once again been postponed.

Respectfully, she adorned herself with her yarmulke of painful-and-yet-not-so-spiritually-beneficial-minor-surgery. "Will this do?" she asked.

The doctor nodded.

"Are you sure?" she asked hopefully. "These toes can't cause you to sin if they're safely stored in my museum of taxidermy, bringing pleasure to untold millions of tourists".

"Uhhh... Doesn't your museum only feature complete exhibits?" questioned the doctor.

"More of less." Sam91 admitted. "I figured your toes could be the start, and we slowly bring you across in pieces, as you broke more of the commandments."

"Oh." said the doctor. "Well, my toes don't really cause me to sin, so far as I'm aware" he explained.

"What about loving thy neighbour as thyself" Sam91 suggested. "Your toes, no, even your foot" she corrected herself, "clearly brought offense to @christine40. And also, what about all those poor souls without noses from the Great Fire of London?"

'@Sam91 now!' Demanded the noble and wise @LaSorcia
'Remember the part about submitting to authorities' said the good @Doctor.Sphinx

@Sam91 considered attaching the toes in the wrong order..

Doctor Sphinx quoted Romans 13, verses 1 through to 3, just in case it would help to convince Sam91 to sew more carefully.

"Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:"

@Sam91 carefully and diligently sewed back all of Doctor Sphinx's missing toes, as she discussed and debated with him what the "higher powers" in the passage actually meant. @LaSorcia oversaw the process, and did her best to be a terror neither to Sam91 or the doctor.

Although, she couldn't resist terrorising @christine40 by inviting her numerous times to see the progress.

but Christine retreated with @Lilac and @DavidFirth to below quarters to quietly read the Bible as well as pray that @Sam91 knew what she was doing with @Doctor.Sphinx 's toes

she accidently looked up to see @DavidFirth eating some green grapes and almost threw up as they reminded her of the Dr's toes

suddenly they heard LaSorcia and sam91 exclaiming loudly........

"It isn't nice to vex people on purpose - it's like handing them a toad" exclaimed @Sam91.

"But this is much too good an opportunity to miss, and I may never have another chance at it.” retorted @LaSorcia as she wondered how many shades of white @christine40 could turn.

"Speaking of toads" @Sam91 commented aloud, "I hope you don't have warts or other nasty contagious ailments on those toes, Dr Sphinx".

The doctor shook his head, somewhat tired at the day's excitement.

"Thank you Samantha," he said absently, but this time, she didn't have the heart to correct him.

Guilt started to creep in. That dastardly emotion, it's worse than the plague.

She felt a little woeful for prioritising her museum over the health of a friend. "I'm sorry, I ought never to have put you in that situation. I hope that you feel better after some rest."

She decided that it would be good to ask @DavidFirth what was for dinner...

Meanwhile @Spikey ...

had harpooned the enormous whale that had swallowed @Ancient of Days whole.

The crew not directly involved in the healing of Doctor Sphinx (or the tormenting of @christine40) had hauled the enormous beast onto the deck, and were debating on the best method for extracting the missing crew member.

"Let's just cut open its belly and get it over with" exclaimed @DavidFirth. "I'm hungry, and this whale is delaying my dinner".

"How can you say this!" exclaimed @*LILAC. "A whale is a living creature, like a..." She struggled for a moment trying to think of a creature DavidFirth might best relate to. "Like a mosquito, or an ebola virus", she finished triumphantly.

Meanwhile...

Lightning brightened the darkened skies, thunder crashed, the waves rose.

@Sam91 shrieked "Get that whale off the ship. We aren't to be the ones to rescue @Ancient of Days.. it's obvious we need to put him back! Quickly or we'll persish"

@DavidFirth gestured to the harpoon... "too late for that"

Doctor Sphinx, his re-attached toes almost twinkling thanks to Sam91's expert surgery, spoke up.
"This reminds me of the story of Jonah. Before @Ancient of Days was swallowed, did anyone ask him where he was *supposed* to be headed?"

And David Firth wanted to make sure there was nothing edible before casting the whale off the deck. Once satisfied, he nodded to the heroes and they pushed and pulled the poor creature off the deck...

Now, on to @gennypearl 's island paradise, folks! exclaimed @GreenWizard...

"Wait a minute", @Sam91 interjected, as she playfully raised the blade of her portable guillotine and released, letting gravity swiftly take the blade to a more stable position. "Did someone just mention that @Ancient of Days was 'supposed beheaded'?"

"Well", answered Doctor Sphinx, still wary of Sam's guillotine and her various strange hobbies, but also ever impressed by her expert use of all manner of yarmulkes and the quality surgery on his toes, "I was merely making out the similarities in Ancient of Days' fate, and Jonah's. You see..."

"Yes, we all know the story Doctor Sphinx," interrupted @DavidFirth, impatient to reach @gennypearl's island paradise in order to consume all the coconuts and lobster meat he could squeeze into his belly.

"God sends a prophet to Nineveh to preach to the Ninevites, but Jonah runs away, gets swallowed by whale, then repents, prays to God, gets forgiven, preaches to the Ninevites, they repent, get forgiven, then Jonah is angry with God for forgiving the Ninevites".

"But don't you think Jonah is a lot like us?" asked @christine40.

@DavidFirth shook his head. "Nope. God never asks me to go to Nineveh."

"I think I am somewhat like Jonah", admitted Doctor Sphinx, serious for once. "I like that God forgives me, but don't like so much that He also forgives other people who might offend me."

"Like Sam91, for what she did to your foot?", queried @*LILAC.

"Oh that little scratch?", laughed the doctor heartily. "Those toes are better than ever - they were twinkling so much earlier that I even beat @DavidFirth in a one verses one football game in the onboard, indoor sport centre below deck."

"How did you have time to play football with DavidFirth since your accident?" asked Sam91 suspiciously.

"Anyway, to answer your first question Samanth..." the doctor began, but then corrected himself, "Sam91, although not beheaded, Ancient of Days has departed our group for a while..."

"Much like Samantha91", he continued, wiping an imaginary tear from his right eye whilst glaring at @LaSorcia with his left.

"Land ahoy!" shouted the @GreenWizard from atop the crow's nest.

Quickly donning his own yarmulke of the-far-sighted-vision-of-the-hyperopic-eagle, Doctor Sphinx could indeed make out the small, malodorous, green leprechaun was not lying this time. Little villagers, much like @gennypearl, but with different faces, and grass skirts about their loins instead of proper clothes, and matching coconut halves on the lady islanders - he presumed these were strategically positioned to protect certain sensitive areas from sunburn, were dancing about on the shore, beckoning to the intrepid CF explorers, and excitedly preparing to wait on the weary but successful adventurers...

@Sam91 turned to look for her trusty, but hitherto unused, eye extraction device, hoping that there might be another opportunity to test it soon. She found it crushed on the floor and eyed the good doctor-'Twinkle toes' suspiciously. She then realised that a number of the group had been advised to use it too. Her heart resembled the mangled tool on the floor of the deck. Crushed. She thought her comrades would respect her belongings. 'Do unto others...' she thought wistfully.

'Maybe @DavidFirth might fix them, or @Spikey, possibly @Dirk1540 ? Huh how sexist... @LaSorcia is very good at DIY projects'

She looked towards @*LILAC and @christine40 and decided to go and stand with them. They are kindhearted and just the companionship she craved.

The ship drew nearer to shore. @DavidFirth scanned the shore most eagerly for an efficient looking route. He was keenly anticipating tasting the local cuisine and hadn't had a carbonated drink for weeks. He did hope that it wasn't all coconut water and fruit juice.

@GreenWizard could not contain his glee, jumping around like a maniac, or an over-excited puppy, looking forward to meeting @gennypearl 's cousins. @Dirk1540 was interested in standing out on rocks looking towards the ocean.....

Then David said, @gennypearl, aren't you going to be our guide on your island of such wonder and beauty?

@gennypearl remained strangely silent..

Hearing the excited cries of the others as land hove into sight, joyshirley came up onto the deck. Ever since she had accidently knocked AncientofDays off the boat and straight into the open mouth of the giant blue whale, joyshirley had felt really bad and had spent time alone in prayer below decks. All she could do now was place her faith in the Lord to answer her prayers.

Far away, AncientofDays sat huddled in the mouth of the whale, not daring to move, surrounded as he was by razor sharp teeth on either side of him. Despite everything, he couldn't help being fascinated by the sheer size of the whale, the power and the strength as he felt the whale surging through the sea.

"Odd that I can breathe in here and I'm so thankful he hasn't tried to swallow me - yet," he thought.

AD lost track of time. Was it minutes or hours later when suddenly he felt a shudder ripple through the whale. Bluey, as AD had nicknamed the whale, opened his mouth and spat AD out. Shocked and almost dazed by the force of the eviction, AD felt himself drifting down helplessly when the whale swam beneath him and carried him to the surface.

Bluey thrashed his tail in the water several times, sending huge bursts of spray showering everywhere. AD spotted a glint in the sunlight and saw the spear protruding from Bluey's back.

"He wants me to help him! I can do this!"

AD crawled the length of the whale's back and used all his strength to wrest the spear out, falling back into the water with the effort. Blood stained the water momentarily, then the wound closed up before AD's stunned eyes. Coming face to face with the whale, they eyed each other for long moments, then Bluey moved beneath AD and next moment, he was hanging on to Bluey's barnacle-encrusted back as the whale began to swim at an astonishing speed.

Meanwhile, everyone was preparing to disembark onto the wharf in the pretty little harbour. joyshirley hung back, continually looking towards the open sea.

"Come on, joyshirley! Food, fun and exploration awaits!" the others said as they stepped out onto the little wharf.

At that moment joyshirley heard a shout, albeit a feeble one.

"Look! Look look look!! It's AD! Riding on the whale!" she shrieked.

Bluey swam right up to the wharf, then slid away from AD, before turning to look up at joyshirley for a moment. It was one of the most thrilling moments of her life as she silently communed with this great whale, created by the same God who created the heavens and the earth and all contained within them. She saw the mark where the spear had pierced him. Saw that it was already healed.

"Thank you, Lord, for answering my prayers," she breathed silently.

Then Bluey was away with a thunderous thrash of his tail.

David reached out and grabbed AD's hand and the men dragged him onto the wharf. Man, did he have a story for everyone that night!

David said, You know, I hate when @gennypearl remains silent.

Good job riding the whale, mon. Jolly good!

Sam91 replied 'she does that, avoids me generally. She'll only talk to me when I should be sleeping, saying sleep is for wimps. Keeps strange hours she does...'

'Now Sam91' said the reformed @Doctor.Sphinx, affectionately named twinkle-toes by members of the crew since his unfortunate incident, 'you quoted Ephesians 4:29-32 to us recently. It is no good reading scripture if you don't walk it too. What use would Paul have been to the Church in Corinth if he had not imiated Christ. He even goes as far in Ephesians, one of your favourite epistles, to say we should imitate Christ. Good theology leads to doxology! Walking obediently to His word is the best form of worship, it is much more glorifying to God.'

@Ancient of Days I see you have lost a little weight in the whale. You look positively gaunt after your ordeal... Do tell us all about it'

Just then The Philippine National Police (Pambansang Pulisya ng Pilipinas) Maritime group stormed the beach, several hroup members appealed to @gennypearl ...

who casted her wand and erased everyone's memory. it turns out she's the evil witch living in a remote island luring people to turn them into slaves.
